I am spending the last days of this year in the Gulf of Mexico working . I am glad to have this job and be working. Recently, thanks to the Obama oil spill care package, some dimensions of oil field work are slow and hurting. People losing jobs, getting pay cuts, waiting a month to get paid. Offshore work takes a specail breed of people to work out here, away from family and friends and even away from civilization, but nowadays with satellite communications it is much better than 20 years ago when all we had was a vhf and stand in line for payphone to talk to loved ones. SO happy New Years to you and yours. My prayers are with the supply boat and drilling people of the oilfield.

Spent 8 years out there as a lead operator and many ah holidays i had to miss so i feel ya on that one, be careful out there and Happy New Years to the guys in the Gulf working, my hats off to ya!

Nah man do not want no pity here, LOL on the double pay, we do not get that bonus here. I am getting paid good. So you kinda right, I make 90g a year so, its the sacrifice I make to make the payday. Plus i have a wife and 4 kids, so being out here does not save me money. LOL I am here by choice so no sympathy needed, I chose my profession, Thanks for the reminder, but I am a pretty humble person.
