 Making Engine Dig In?
I've only had my MM a few months now and I'm still learning. So my question is if there's any trick you guys use to make your engine dig in better? The reason I'm asking is because I hide my boat in saw grass which most of the time is pretty thick. So when it's time to leave, the engine is usually sitting on top of the saw grass and I can't get it to dig into it. I've tried moving the engine around back and forth and it helps a little but not much. I think the main problem I have is that the trim on my engine only moves my motor up and relies on the engines weight to bring it back down. If it worked like on an outboard where the trim would actually pull the engine down, this wouldn't be an issue but would probably destroy the engine if I hit something since it wouldn't float like it is now. So any tips you guys can give me will be appreciated and before someone tells me I should've bought an engine with reverse, not even reverse would get me out of the saw grass if the motor isn't even in the water.

Dont pull it so far up into the saw grass...leave close enough that you can push it out.

 Re: Making Engine Dig In?
i trim mine all the way down, then i lift the motor up with the handle giving it gas in forward and drop it, it will eventually dig a hole, and i do use my reverse in the situation also to dig it dont a little too, it does help.

 Re: Making Engine Dig In?
Thanks for the tips guys and yesterday I got stuck pretty bad in the saw grass again but was able to get out. The problem I have is that if I don't put the boat far enough in the saw grass, or in saw grass high enough, the ducks will start flaring a hundred yards out. Then when I put it deep enough to where I could just barely see the decoys, they will fly right over my head and come into the decoys, never knowing that I was there.
I have a buddy that put one of those fastgrass blinds on his boat and the ducks still flare, it's like they know what belongs in the glades and what doesn't.

 Re: Making Engine Dig In?
So, you dont even use a blind you just pull up in there and drape grass over the boat?

 Re: Making Engine Dig In?
Hunt away from the boat. Blinds don't work well in the glades. I cover my boat with camouflage netting and shove it way up into the grass 30-40 yards away from where I'm hunting. Works great and doesn't flare the ducks. Need to get one of the hotti motor covers though so I don't have to wait for it to cool.

 Re: Making Engine Dig In?
Chico,
If ducks are flaring 100 yds away its because ringers are flaring off the mojo's during the late season... if you have no shine on the engine and you are where the ducks want to be... then you need to loose the mojo's! Teal love them but ringers hate them late season.. good luck
