Re: looking into 4500 black death or mod my 23 or get 35
I have a Mudbuddy mini that i installed a 24 Honda on. It has lower gear ratio(was 18hp mini), I think around 1.47:1 . I got up on plane with myself, 185, son 170, another son, 180, cousin 200, stepson 50, another kid 40. I got up on a plane, maybe doing 18, 19 mph, did not have the gps. I am turning a 12x12 Godevil prop on that gear drive. By myself with minimal gear, it runs 24, and it is an old antique registration, 1542 flat with a few kinks on bottom, only thing i did was put Goop coat-it on bottom. If you decide to sell the 23 mini let me know. Thanks

I got lucky with this motor and old boat combo. Best deal is boat was free, my Dad's old boat, motor costs me around 3 grand to put together. So for the $$$$$$$$$$ I spent I am thrilled.

Do a search on here for user name filter. He had a souped up 23 that was running like a raped ape.

First- get rid of the neo mats- they suck water and are just extra weight you are carrying around (hydroturf is better- closed cell foam).
A 4500 BD is a 35 with heads and single carb. You have a 4300 rev limit on it but it would push my 1851F4 (800# boat) with my wife and son in the high 20's before I put a cam in it. Its got alot of power and would push your small boat well.

I agree with deadbird8. My 4500 BD pushes my 1751 Excel with a load in high 20's also. Summer run I'm going to try another prop for better speed.
