Post Real dumb question.. but you gotta learn somehow
Alright, I keep reading about short and tall transoms, 15" or 20" transoms, 16" or 21" transoms..? What is the difference? is it the boat?

Somone explain to me all of this please because im a little confused I always thought you could just throw on any mud motor you wanted on any boat you wanted.. whats the transoms got to do with anything?

All you need to know is...

A short transom is 4" closer to sinking. Avoid them at all costs.

So its just the transom on the boat? So a high transom is just a transom even with the sides of the boat that doesent dip down?

The transom height doesn't have anything to do with the sides of the boat, they can be a totally different height, and vary greatly on different boats.

Your general 2 transom heights are 16" and 20". A shorter transom is usually found on a smaller boat, that is made for a smaller motor. The 20" transoms are mostly bigger boats, made for holding heavier motors and drafting a little more water.

Motors come in short and tall transom models, and it's important to have the right height motor for your transom height. Keep in mind that the transom heights vary some (15-16", 20-21"). this is probably from a greater number of boat and motor manufacturers available now.

And like I said, when it comes down to it, a taller transom is the way to go. Seriously. You can actually SINK a short transom boat quite easily by riding up on something and dipping the transom underwater.

Short transom = take alot of water over the back all the time. Tall transom = take on a little every now and then.

16" transomes have thier place. If your running a LT then you need a 16" if not your loosing performance. Been running them for years and I've yet to sink my 16" transome boat due to water comming over the back. Not saying it cant happen but i wouldnt not get one if I was running an LT. SDs are another story.

Tall and short trasoms are both 1 wave and 3 seconds from sinking to
the bottom of the river without FLOATATION.....

If you are going to order a new boat go tall transom. I have owned both short and tall transom boats. Short tail mud motor makers sell short and tall transom versions of their motors. Tall transom motors are usually $100 or so more. I even converted my short transom Prodrive motor to a tall transom version. You definitely want to run the correct transom height motor on your boat or you will have performance problems.

I can get a loan for however much. I just wanna kinda limit my payments. So I want a cheaper slick bottom preferably all weld, and all aluminum. But that's probably not gonna happen. Just a cheaper than 5000 slick bottom would be nice. I want one storage box with a universal seat fitting on it on the back right side of the boat to have something to sit on, and a gun box extending from it, and then another storage seat/ box on the left front just like the back with a 1 1/2 to 2 ft front deck with a place to put stuff under it (storage hatch)

Don't finance a boat/toy. Save up, you and your credit report can thank me when your 30.

Get a tall transom boat and motor.

I greatly appreciate yalls help, but I plan on outfitting and paying off the boat with the income from that, including my other 3 sources. I'll be able to pay it off early. Only reason I dnt just save and buy in full is because i need a truck first. Totaled my first truck. And if all elae fails which is extremely unlikely my grandpa or mom will pay off the loan and I'll just work a payment plan out with them

Before y'all go getting yalls panties in a wad, I said of all else fails. I work and have worked for everything I've got, and my grandfather or mom both are more than capable of helping me out of I cant make yhe payments, and I also said i would pay them back.

I believe If you want something then YOU and nobody else have to work for it with no help on the side which is what I plan on doing

You should probably make sure you have enough to not rely on mom and grandad if times get tough, then.

Yeah I understand, and i do. I have 3 sources of pretty decent Income at the moment and I don't see them going away anytime soon.. Now I know at this day and my age I still shouldn't get comfortable with thnking it will stay that way because there's alot of big possibilities it won't, but I can always sell other things and keep up with the payments and possibly even pay it all off. All I was saying was if it came down to it and somehow something came up to where I couldn't make the payment, then I still have my mom or grandpop. That would be the very last resort if my credit was at sake. And I'd still pay them back
