they are all the same engines. its gonna costs the same to mod each engine. speed is gonna be pretty close to same for each motor.

the overall length will be 17ft 6, should i get a tall transom or a short or does it matter for performance, i want the huntdeck low to the water for geting in and out wearing waders

Definitely go tall transom. Nobody in their right mind would get a short transom if they didn't have too.

Remember - a short transom is 4" closer to SINKING.

Whether it be short or tall transom, if you have a hunt deck you don't have to worry about water coming in the boat over the transom

You gotta think to yourself, with the way you hunt and what you carry, do you really need all those boxes and storage, does everything have to be tucked away behind aluminum? Or would you prefer the versatility of having more room, so you can move things around as you need them, and not be committed to all the permanent boxes taking up your floor space.

You can always go with all removeable storage.

that would be ideal, you don't want alot of weight on the same side you'll be sitting on, try to distribute the weight evenly over the boat, so yes put your gun box opposite your drive box.

Post Re: mudbuddy vs gtr vs godevil
i had that same layout in a 1644 gator trax and it was really cramped with 2 gunboxes, but it was a narrow bottom. why the need for 2 gun boxes? i know the gator trax will hold 4 cased guns pretty easy and that about all they are good for because not too much other stuff will fit besides a paddle. i have dual halfboxes on mine and i really like it, i hunt out of my boat sometimes and it makes a perfect seat for me no matter which way the boat is facing, u can just swap boxes when u need to point the boat another way. i ended up with a center bench this time and it to me serves a better purpose than the gun boxes, i could put 10 cased guns and alot more crap in there and still have room and 2 people can hunt off it. that setup works for me.

A honda engine and a pipe bender and you could be building that motor to.

I have a BD5500 and it's a great motor. With two guys and a hunting load I run about 28 mph or so on a 1750HD Gator Trax. Good engine.

Buy a godevil. You sacrifice reverse but while the rest of these yahoo's are in their garages trying to fix chit, you'll be out tearing birds up. :D

To answer your original post....

All of the brands you listed are using basically the same 35hp motor and as said above, the mods would be basically* the same for them. The main differences are the way the frame is constructed (balance of the motor) and features (clutch, reverse, etc...). I would suggest you go demo the different models and see what feels best to you and where you run.

*the BPS mods are made for a MB but will mostly work on the other models with some tweaks. There are some things/considerations on some brands, (for example a BPS crossover exhaust doesn't work well with the GT plastic clutch cover) but carb kits, performance heads, internals work well with the base 35 motor.
