Post Gatortail trim
Has anybody ever had problems with the trim unit on the gatortail? Whenever I trim it up and down as the shaft moves in and out of the unit it leaks fluid. I think a seal may be broken in the unit. Has anybody had this problem?

It happens,I had one that leaked a small amount of fluid for about two years and never had a problem with it. I just checked the fluid once in a while by topping it off.

Never looked close at a GT trim unit but typical hydrolic rams are all basically the same.
Probably needs an O-ring changed. There are O-rings on the piston that make the seal.

Mine was leaking bad bout a month ago. Brought it to GT and they rebuilt the trim unit in about 30 minutes. Replaced the seal and changed out the ram itself.

Only issue I ever had with the trim was that it didnt work the other morning when it was 28 outside. Worked after I cranked the engine. Had to get the motor bracket off with my hammer.

The piston could get damaged under extreem pressure but typically the seals will blow. Should be able to open it up with a spanner wrench and pull the piston out. Replace seals and your back in business. If you do it replace them all while you got it open. O-rings are cheap.

Well I had around 600 hours on mine before the leak got real bad. It was just a
small leak after about the second year I had it. You would never see it drip but I could see it on the transom.

I think my issue was because of the cold weather. Have not had issues since.

The old one was the good ones. They had alum. housing with stainles ram.. The trim company changed it to alum. to alum to i guess make them cheaper.. Now they leak pretty easy when they do leak and gt get them they replace the alum with the stainles.. After that usally no more problem!! That is my take on it!!

Seems like it is ok for a Gatortail to break, but not for any others to break. ;)
