Post Different drive sizes....
How does the different drive lengths affect your boats performance? I saw on another thread that some people prefer the 32" rather than others. Just curious.

The longer lengths will help you in the mud but will increase your tiller torque somewhat. The deeper you can dig down the easier it is to get out of a bad situation. Pro drive and go devil have one size drive but the one on a go devil is long enough. Mud buddy has some motors with the longer drive and you can also get a longer drive from gator tail.

Correction, the only way you can get a longer drive is if you order the whole motor or frame, they are not offering it as an option at this time, trust me i would have one if they did. the 32" shaft is perfect, trim down a lil to reduce tiller torque and you'll pick up a lil speed with the longer shaft. More reliable and alot better performance in mudd

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to do, somebody should make aftermarket shafts to bolt onto gt/mb..

You could get custom lengths.... The longer the shaft the more trim range you have a the prop.

I could see it bein a problem if it was too long, it would have to have more bracing.

It would run more parallel to the water if its longer too, will that effect speed any?

supoosedly you gain speed with a onlger shaft, but thats speculation on my part, i personally have never ran one

MB will sell the longer lower unit separately for their motors but its more economical to order it with the motor. I think they even have a 48" as well as the 32". They used to offer a 36" but that was the older model and they discontinued it.

Thanx guys for the help. I was thinkink this whole time that the shorter drive was helpful with shorter boats. Is that wrong? Does it matter?

Longer drive is useful for soupy mud where you need extra reach or heavy veggies you need to get under. It works well for heavier boats like the Gatorhide for example. For a tunnel hull, the longer outdrive puts the prop in cleaner water. Other than that, its personal preference.

Longer shaft = more tiller torque.

I have the MB Mini with the longer drive and it’s balanced. This is true I have a good amount of tiller torque. But the combination longer drive and balanced frame is a good combination for the situations I run. It works well in the soupy bay mud I run in with the additional reach and then works well when I ride up river and it turns to hard bottom. I feel the balanced drive lets me run the hard bottom without complete destroying my prop because I can stay on top and bounce along with just a few inches of water. I believe it really depends on the conditions you mostly run.
