Doing some head and port work on a 08 23 hp go devil sd and im wondering how much i can deck the head's without having problem's? Aslo, how much do i shim the valve's after decking the head's? I was told not to go over 20 thou, but what are most guy's doing?

The engine is also getting exhaust and carb kit.

Decking will be fine Carb and exhaust will help to Really the question to be asked is his much can you stand money wise The more you do the more it's prone to break These mild mods will be fine

What was the reasoning for not going past .020? I don't know how much valve clearance you have on that motor. That would be the only reason for not taking much off that I could think of. .020 should not raise the compression too much. If you are not ever planning on doing pistons or rods, you would probably be safe to go a little more, as long as you have clearance. Don't know how much you need to shim the springs on that motor either, depends on the spring pressure. You may not need to at all. Give Mike at EVT a call. They have the knowledge you need and they don't charge too much for just a simple head job. Don't know where your at, but shipping isn't much on a set of heads.

You planning on puttin in ss valves while you have it in the shop? Port and polish?

Weren't you running a kohler, or was that someone else?

I was running a kohler with the same mod's and it worked great. Someone that work's with mudbuddy/bps told me not to go over 20 thou on that motor, but couldnt tell me what to deck them at/ what they deck the iron mountain head's too. Im just planning on cleaning up the ports and and doing the decking, not the valves as of now.

I will call and talk with the evt guy's! They led me in the right direction on my kohler.
