Post FNH 5.7x28
I went to Buckfins&Feathers this morning to look at some .17HMR rifles. I was going to go ahead and order a Savage model 93 btv () with a BSA sweet 17 scope in 3-12x40. Something to shoot snakes, nutrias and hogs with out in the marsh. When I was talkin to Kelly about the rifle I noticed a box of 5.7x28 rounds on the counter. They looked a lot like a .17 just bigger.

Right now the only guns that shoot this round is a PS90 and FiveSeven. Savage is coming out with the new rifle that looks a like the model 93 I wanted so I am debating if I should just go ahead and get the 17 or wait and see what this new rifle and round can do.

Have any of yall heard of this round? I cannot find much info on it online. I wonder if it would be as accurate as the 17 and be able to shoot as far or farther than the 17.

Here is a pic of the round

I have this pistol and love it. Cops here in town are grouping 20 rounds at 100 yrds open sights at a paper plate. Its known as the cop killer because it can penatrate low level body armor. There is a kit you can buy to make your stock 20 round clip hold 30. Ammo is fairly cheap and its a fun shooting gun. I picked up the outlawed ss190 round and ss192 round (2000rnds) off of gunbroker.com at a reasonable price.

I been debating one, light as hell, no recoil to speak of. I got an FNP40 and an FNAR, FN makes top quality sheit, makes lots of arms for our military. Also owns Browning and Winchester.

I've been looking at these for sometime now in the CDNN catalog but ammo availability seems to be a problem down here. I will say this though, I don't know what mags Turbodrive is talking about but if you could modify the 20 round mags that come in the handguns to hold 30, that's an impressive amount of firepower in a handgun.

I haven't seen any ballistics data on this round, how does it compare to the .223? Does it have the same or less energy?

its not going to compete with a .223

it is a little slower and more energy than a .17

I just checked the prices on the FN handgun thinking they'll be $400 or so and they cost over $1000 so I think I'll pass. This was the pricing at buds gunshop so if anything CDNN will be $100 cheaper which still puts it at $900. Funny thing is that FN .45's are $570 so I automatically assumed that since this gun shot a smaller round, it would cost less. Guess I was wrong.

5.7x28 is about the same as a 22 Hornet. TC is making barrels in this caliber if you want a single shot. The main advantage over the Hornet is the bullet choices in factory 5.7. They have alot more smack on target than a 22wmr or 17hmr. Its gonna make a great small predator rifle.
Effective to 200 yards or so.

Everytime I see someone at the range with one of those I get as far away as possible. You could have 20 guys shoot a 300 Win Mag at the same time and when that 50 goes off, it'll be the only one you hear.

they make an AR upper for the 5.7 just do a search for AR-57. I really like the one that is a SBR that you can fit a supressor inside the rails... just saying. the 5.7 round has a lot more performance than you will think. you can confrim this through some online reading.

The Brady group really added to the popularity of the round when they pushed for the banning of it in America.
