Question on switching out MudMotors and Outboards
I had a question, wondering if it's possible to switch between a mudmotor and an outboard. this is my first boat/motor so may be a dumb question, but with everyone in the summer complaining about speed running to their fishing spots, some mod their motors then end up killing the motor and their wallets. would it be just as easy as unbolting your MM lifting it off and putting a higher HP tiller outboard on and bolting it down and running; then switching back in the winter when its time to hunt?? I tried the search, so forgive me if this is a dead horse.. but will an outboard motor perform on hull built for a mud motor? is the transom different as far as angles etc.?

No, an outboard will work fine on one of these hulls. People do it all the time. Matter of fact, pm Kman & get him to send ya some pics of his new ride.

Re: Question on switching out MudMotors and Outboards
Thats exactly what my dad does he has a 29hp mud motor for the fall and winter and then come spring and summer he puts a 40hp Yamaha on it. He runs a 1650 lowe. We put just use a electric winch bolted to the ceiling and swap them out. He built a motor stand for the motor and it really only takes about 15 minutes to do.

Re: Question on switching out MudMotors and Outboards
Good Deal! thanks for the reply fellas! I don't mind sacrificing top speed with a hunt load for being able to go places a standard outboard cant, but in the summertime when all im doing is fishing and running waterways, and having fun on the river I'd like to be able to push more than 23mph with people. fowl, thats my plan exactly! just may be using the front end loader on the tractor til i can get a winch installed

Yeah the winch is sweet we originally put it up in the garage for hoisting up deer and stuff but works great with a little chain to swap out motors.

Re: Question on switching out MudMotors and Outboards
The last boat I had I used to swap out between an outboard and longtail all the time. I had a comealong hanging from the ceiling in the shop. Like you said all you need is a stand for the motor that isn't being usded. The swap out took me about 20 minutes by myself.

Re: Question on switching out MudMotors and Outboards
Ill take one tonight and send it to ya. He built all outta 2x8 if I remeber right. Ill take some measurment too and get them to ya. It works slick we built it tall enough so you hardly need too winch it up or down along ways. The only thing I woudl do different is maybe pu some wheels on the bottom when ya got a 300lb motor its hard to drag around the garage
