Post Marine batteries
Just wanting to see what everyone is running in their rigs. I'll be setting up my new rig over the next few weeks or so and wanted to hear what y'all are running.

I had a Blue Top Optima in my last boat, but I'm thinking a $200+ battery might not be necessary for this lawnmower motor.

Academy Sports over on the WB Expressway has the best deals I have found. Bottom of the line Dual purpose is what I run. Use the same quality but 105 amp hour size on larger boats. Get a few years out of them.

Post Re: Marine batteries
AC Delco Voyager's have been the best batteries I have ever used. I have always bought two at a time and I'm on my third set without ever having a problem. I average at least 5 years a set and I only replace them for my own piece of mind.

They used to be the only maintenance-free marine batteries that I knew of. In the last few years they changed something and the batteries now have fill caps but it still says not to open them. I don't know why they changed or if it had any effect of the quality but I haven't noticed a difference in the last two years with the new ones.

I buy the group 27 size batteries and use one for starting and one for trolling. I can almost troll all night while bowfishing with this size.

Either Deka, Sears Platinum, or Trojan on other boats. Just NAPA on my aquatic lawn mower.

I had a cheap battery blow up in my rock crawler once the caps blew off with such force it seperated the welds on my hood. I had outward dents on my hood. luckily It was a standard and I push started it, or I might still be in the desert. I will never buy another cheap battery again if you have to replace it spend the money and buy a good battery that you don't have to worry about. theres enough things to go wrong out in the middle of nowhere, freezing with ice in the winter! If you run a trolling motor and have 2 batteries I might chance it knowing you have a back-up! :D

I hear all these guys talk about their bad experiences with the Academy Stowabouts, but I've had 3 of em & only 1 has ever failed, but it was a dead cell after about 3 yrs & absolutely 0 maintainence. I don't keep mine on any kind of chargers or nothin, just run em & give em a lil boost ever once in a while.

I don't take any chances and carry a second lawn tractor battery just in case and for the winch. Its light and don't take up any room. I also have a small onboard charger that I plug in once I get home to make sure its topped off before my next trip.

A regular car battery will do fine. Deep cycle batteries are made to be drained and recharged.WAL-MART 3 year free replacement.

I'm probably gonna go with deep cycle batteries for the new boat. I'll have one for the motor and my electronics and one as a backup that will power my 12v outlets when I'm frogging.

Interstate. I had one on the godevil rig I just sold. Lots of time sitting. It never needed a charge for over two years. I thought about an optima, but two battery stores said they had more optimas come back than any other battery. Don't know how true that is.

I have an AC Delco that has hundreds of hours on it with no problemo.

I hook it up to the motor and charge while running then bring it to the front and troll with it.

Duralast multi purpose 160 reserve. Lasted several trips up and down the river running trot lines with a 55 thrust minnkota and two flood lights going during the evening and was still at 50% or so when I get it home to float charge. I don't even have a full year on it yet so I cannot attest to its lifespan. But maintanance is everything for getting the most out of anything.

I run the Marine Duralast from Autozone and haven't had an issue yet. The one's in my center console are 5 years old now and going strong but I think it's also has to do with the fact that I keep the Guest charger plugged in all year long too.

I would've bought the Optima's but I can't imagine they'd be that much better than the ones I'm using now at half the price.
