Depth Finder
Hey fellas, I have been looking for a depth finder for my Gatortrax. I plan on fishing out of it a little this summer but it could also come in handy when travelling the rivers during duck season as well. Just wondering if anybody else was using a depth finder and if using a shoot thru the hull transducer. If so, what brand depth finder would be good? Thanks for any help.

Re: Depth Finder
They only make one kind of transducer that can shoot through an aluminum hull and it sucks.

Re: Depth Finder
I have my transducer mounted on 3 foot piece of conduit and rigged it so it attaches to the transom for temporary use. When I am running I can swing it to the side and secure it so it doesnt get ripped off the boat.

Re: Depth Finder
Yeah my next boat will have a little box/recess built into the bottom in the back to mount a transducer. Got it all figured out and its going to be the shit I tell ya!

Re: Depth Finder
I got a little transducer mount on my gatortrax from the factory. Just have a fab shop weld a little square shaped bracket on your transom.

Re: Depth Finder
I would like to see some pics of these temporary mounts and especially of the one you have marsh chicken. I didn't know Gatortrax offered anything like that. Thanks fellas.

Re: Depth Finder
I use the Cabela's clamp-on transom mount transducer bracket. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Portable ... l+Products

Re: Depth Finder
I could never get it to work. Not sure if it was turbulence but I have a 60" wide boat so I had plenty of area to try it on. I gave up and returned it to Cabelas after talking with The Boat Dr. who had the same experience as me. The Cabelas bracket is so easy to take off and on and I never have to worry about it not working.
It's too bad it wouldn't work for you. My fishing buddy has one connected to a big buck Lowrance, screen/GPS unit and swears by it. I use the flasher because I'm interested in depth while running the Yukon and the flasher gives an immediate indication of what is below. I don't need it to find fish. I KNOW fish are going to be where ever I throw my lure. I tried to remove one to swap to a different boat. NOPE, not happening if you used the epoxy they sent with it. I would have destroyed the Alumaducer or the boat before it came off the bottom. I didn't try heating the bottom of the boat to see if it would release. If I ever do that again I'll try it with heat.

Re: Depth Finder
I'd take a look at the Garmin units and use it as a chart plotter also. Gatortrax has a sliding transducer mount thats pretty cool and something like $85 or so.
