Hey guys -- short story - bought mb 35 cdi --- smoke and spit oil out of the muffler from day one --- mb replaced the power unit with a small upgrade fee to a mb 4500 (great service on turnaround) now with in 30 days later this one has lost a CAM -- what does the cam do ? coming from a small yamaha mainley background if over 25 years of outboard experiance - is this normal for mud motors to constantly have issues ? i now have approx. 5 hours on this unit -- it ran perfect the first 3 trips -- then it would not plane out and continues to spit back through carb . -- its under warranty - thats not my concern -- i have been through 2 motors (mainly putting around ) and still have not put the numbers on the new boat yet ... please advise --- get out now or learn to be a mechanic ?

You, my friend are a candidate for the lemon law remedy. Consult local attorney, seriously. You will have the option to get a brand new one off the shelf or your money back plus attorney fees and costs.

That's not a mm issue it's a Briggs issue. MB should take care of it. I don't know if the 45 has the bps cam in it but it should be covered.

You don't want warranty repair you want brand new mm or your money back. Its been in the shop too long and too many times....its cursed. Or get a gatortail with you refund.

It is an issue sometimes with the stock briggs cam. My stock cam flatted a lobe at 93 hours on a BONE stock engine. It happens moreso on the horizontals than verticals. This came from a Mower mechanic.

Just buy the BPS cam for 300 bucks and put it in and you will be happier.

not looking to sue anybody -- but is this what yall go through on a reg. basis ---- do not have the patience or the internal knowledge to replace the parts myself --- 6 hour round trip everytime this exspensive motor has to be looked at . I have approx. 8 miles of river and 3 miles of swamp creeks to run one way every time i hunt --- 22 to 25 miles at least 26 trips per duck season not counting any summer fun -- wondering if these things are going to handle the time --- thought they would be bullet proof --WTF

Yours is a fluke, this is NOT the norm. Let MB take care of it, they WILL make it right for ya.

Yeah deffinetly not normal. Most these motors are tough as nails even after modding them out. Their is alot of guys on hear with a few hundred hours on motors with no problems. Hope you get it all worked out

LEMON LAW? Are you serious? The dude said he had problems TWICE and they also had a GOOD TURNAROUND. How in the hell does a lemon law apply? I went through this with a truck, so please enlighten me.

Got a CDI motor at the shop right now that has been nothing but a curse. Stage I motor that busted a sump cover, replaced it , went back out and within 1 hour bolts come out of sump, remove put lock tight , torque to 18 ftlbs gets 3 more hours and pops the bolts in the cover. It also has a hairline crack in the block as well. Now I am replacing the block and going to change the gear ratio to take some load off the engine. It is a big boat so just to much load being applied to the engine. I have been told that some stock CDI motors have popped the covers as well. My suggestion is GENERAC it!

Man that sucks . Like everyone has said we all know someone with several hundred hours and no problems. You may just have bad luck like me, my GTR trim went out at 3 hrs and its acting up again. Its just my karma i think lol GT and SETX performance have both been great with warranty work just sucks being without boat for awhile.

spoke to the dealer today -- intends on putting a stock cam back in --- is their something harder or is one cam the same as any other -- carbon steel is carbon steel or is one hardened more

Ask him how much he'd charge ya to upgrade to a BPS cam, or if it's even an option.

Stock cams are weak....re-welded cams are a lot harder.
