 Lab biting secrets?
My pup is 8 months and constantly biting my hands. I have tried firmly saying no and ignoring him, I have tried holding his mouth shut while telling him no bite. Every time he bites I yell no bite, he doesn't get it. 4 mins later he bites again. Its not a bite to hurt me but it still hurts sometimes and my daughter can't go near him. I have worn gloves full of hot sauce and cayenne. Still bites. For the last three days I put him on chock chain and played with him and petted him for a solid thirty mins and I would put my hand on his head to pet him and when he bit I would choke him hard as I could yelling no bite. He still bites. I'm talkin choking him every forty seconds for a solid 30 mins. I'm sick of it. Any ideas I haven't tried? Any tips

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
grab the dog by the snout firmly, look into the dogs eyes and hold until you hear a whimper then you have the dogs attention open handed pop the nose straight back but not real hard. If this is done correctly the dog will sneeze. reapeat until problem solved

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
He will eventually get over it. Keep doing what you are doing. You really have to impose your will on him in more ways than just physical reprmands. Your body language and demeanor will also affect how he responds. Pissing you off right now is enjoyable for him and in his world still worth the pain you may inflict. Let him bite your glove for an hour steady without any reaction from you at all and see what happens.

Hot sauce. Did it with mine. Anything he bites or chews you don't want him too, use a little hot sauce. To help him with a soft mouth, use a bristle brush to retrieve.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
When he bites, bind down on his tounge and lower jaw till he starts wimpering. That's what I did with my and he doesn't bite.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
I've also grabbed his upper jaw when he bites, roll his lips under his teeth and squeeze hard with my hand wrapping around the top, till he wimpers and tries to pull away. I won't let go until he stops moving.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
Do a little google search on mouthing. Most of what you will find says to yelp or say "ouch" and let your hand go limp. It will help them control the pressure of their biting. Mine did the same thing, ouch worked just fine. To this day, even at 9 yrs old he still likes to mouth my hand at times, when it gets to hard, I tell him ouch and he usually lets it go or will lighten up a great deal. At 8 months all his puppy teeth should be gone so I wouldn't think that was the cause. It is most likely a play issue/action. Aggresive biting is a totally different deal. Hope you get it solved.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
I tried ouch, screaming, submitting him but all it does is make him think I'm playing and it just gets him more excited.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
The way I use to get mine to stop bit in is I would grab him around his lower jaw and squeeze his cheeks in so that when he bites down he bite his cheeks. It seemed to work for mine

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
Draggin, wanna bring him by here for a while? Maybe someone else teaching him not to bite might help. Might be one of those things where he sees you as a play friend instead of someone trying to stop him. Just a thought. That's about all you haven't tried.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
I put a long heavy screw driver in the pups mouth and slap the bottom jaw shut. Takes about 2 - 3 times to figure out. Puppy teeth get replaced anyway, fork em!

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
ive said this once before.........crab boil fixes any problem a dog has....put gloves on with crab boil on them and that dog will not touch them, the smell and taste is so strong he will hate it. trust me it worked for my lab.

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
i have tried it all too but i agree that the bass approach is by far the best. press down on his tongue w/ your thumb and MAKE HIM SUBMIT if he does it again get harder and longer.i have a kennel in sc and have raised labs for 20 yrs this is the best way..also associate a stern NO with it

 Re: Lab biting secrets?
Thinking outside the box, the pup has established a pattern that is now an unpleasant expectation. The pup is telling you "This is what I do when near people and I can't help it." It is sometimes very difficult to make a dog "not" do something once it becomes a habit.
Here's my suggestion. Buy an inexpensive, soft, cloth muzzle. Place it on him. While he is wearing it, three things will happen 1) he can't bite, 2 ) you will have time to show him good alternatives and 3) the poor coping skill may be extinguished.
