 Dropping like flies
My female lab had 10 puppies about 4 weeks ago. I kinda figured she would lose one or 2, but now we are down to 5. The first two got smothered in the first week. The others that have died were after the eyes were opened and walking around, healthy and playful. Ended up taking them from the mother and started feeding soft puppy food and suplemental milk, because the vet told us that her milk maybe bad. Brought the pups in night before last, fed them, then they went to sleep. After a few mins one started moaning real loud, started gasping for air, tensed up went limp and that was it, dead. Wife just text me said an other one dead. Wtf!

 Re: Dropping like flies
I'm not a vet, have had a similar problem with a litter before! It could be a couple of causes, the first could be what is called "fading puppy syndrome", unexplainable underdevelopment of internal organs and as puppies grow the first few weeks they just die off one by one and usually if this is the case the whole litter has it. The other could be that the mother is not cleaning them enough to expell their bowles and urine and they are binding up and organs shutting down. The previous option is what ended up being the cause of my litters issue so we just started taking warm damp wash towels and rubbing them on their areas until they would expell a few times per day. Most puppies wont start going on their own until 3 weeks. If yours are 4 weeks this should not be the problem. I would take momma and puppies to the vet, they can test her milk to see if it is truly bad. SHITTY DEAL THOUGH BRO. Hope you don't lose any more.

 Re: Dropping like flies
The wife took them to the vet the other day. They looked at the mothers milk but didn't test it; why look at it and not test it I dunno. The vet said the pups sugar was low, so I guess I have diabetic dogs, go figure. Other than that they said the pups were fine. Lost another lastnight, down to three.
