 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
One time an old dude told me to use Ivory soap on some catfish lines, I thought he was crazy, so I went and put two lines out with ivory soap and I caught a catfish on one of the lines, I just wanted to see if it worked, I never tried it again. Don't know if it would work in a trap, maybe some pogy fish?

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
Iv used cheese balls you buy at the store.. Also have hung dog food in um.. Get some cheese cloth to tie it up in.. But the worse it smells the better off you are.

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
Use pressed soybean chips in the traps if you dont like the smell of cheese works just as good. you can prolly buy a sack for $36.00 @66lb or a pail 25lb for $20.00 I use the fishnet company out of jonesville la.see there web site you will have to soak traps a little longer prolly 4 days atleast, the cheese would prolly only last 2-3days with same results.

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
I thought about using Ivory soap also but I read somewhere the I org the used to catch on was the old one that still contained lye as an ingredient. Try it and let us know.

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
i know that the cheese will work best but i aint foolin around with it, the smells sticks to you no matter what you do to try and and get it off. i guess i will throw some ivory soap in one for shits a giggles and some dog food in the other and see what happens, if neither is worth a crap i will change the bait out with some of the other suggestions on here. thanks for the replies guys.

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
throw em out right now w/no bait. Catfish are spawning and will go in them to lay eggs. Same as the cans.
Then go get you the compressed soybean/cottonseed blocks.

If you have a problem picking your nose, the cheese will break you.

 Re: catfish slat traps/boxes
You can mess around with other baits and hope to catch catfish or you can drop in a bag of cheese and sharpen the knife Randy
