 well, it happened (f-250)
im pullen the big boat home from the river the other day and the fan starts cycleing on. r's dont change but the truck sounds like its fixin to take off. call a buddy the next day and he says he will put the computer on it.
go over and hook it up. get out on the interstate and run it hard. oil temp climbs to like 260 dgs. coolant goes up to around 225. get off the ramp and the coolant goes down to 195 in seconds but the oil temp stays up.
he tells me the oil cooler is bout 50-60% plugged up. ORDER PARTS i say. egr delete and oil cooler
well yesterday we pull it down. not a bad job about 4 hours start to end. it helps that hes done about a billion to date.
put the puter back on and do the same route. the oil never goes over 200 and stays within 2 of the coolant the whole time.
all said and done i still love my truck. and i have to say it has the baddest cooling system of any ive ever seen. ever with 260 oil temp the coolant will drop 30 in seconds.
800 bones gives me alot on piece of mind. i know the 6.0 gets a bad rap but it can be fixed. they have figured out what causes the problems and the fixes seem to be holding. ill leave the tune stock and service like it should be. its still a good truck and imo the best looking truck made.
btw its a 2005 with 56000 miles. i know thats not many miles but ive only fed it fuel and oil chanes for 6 years. so a little money now and then doesnt hurt too bad.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
Havent streched the head bolts yet? You will, thats there main default. Only cost ya about 4 to 6 grand to have that fixed. 6.0 is not a good motor. the 7.3 now thats a good motor.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
i helped a friend that works on them. he gets 500 for the delete parts and labor.
as for the head bolts- if i leave the stock tune on it they will last. also since i fixed the egr and oil coolers i wont be over heatting or sending coolant through the egr system so the head bolt problem wont be a conceaarn. so far even a mild tune will work with the stock head bolts.
3500 will buy all the parts to make one bullet proof. ive seen several that were fixed making like 650hp. its not that bad of a motor.

Had the same thing happen to my 2005 with 145,000 on it. Did you do a flush and filter after the work?

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
Dude whoever said the 6.0 is not a bad motor is full of chit. It was rushed to production because the 7.3 is a pulluting mother fugger... Thats why the 6.0 has had issues... RUSHING IT. The 6.0 needs head gaskets, egr delete (most issue it has and it relates to bad head gaskets), and a good tuner. With that you will have a truck that pulls as good, gets better mileage, and is faster than a 7.3L ALL DAY LONG

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
rushed into production. ? that motor was in some school buses for three years. my ranch tested one for 13 months. before it went into production. the egr system was a huge problem for international on the ford side of consumer trucks. mostly caused by hot tunes. and bad coolers.the mandated emisions has kilded all these motors. dodge - ford - chevy. they have al had thier problems. just ask a chevy owner 2003-2005 see how much injectors cost. ask the dodge boys about injection pumps. caused by low pressure lift pumps. get your facts straight before you post up.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
2001-2004 LB7 injectors went to shit because of Shitty fuel filtration by GM. Now GM offers a better filter that will get more water/ contaminates out.
As for the 6.0L It was rushed into the pickup line by the government. If International had more time to test these in the fords i think it would have been better out of the box. I agree with you on the emissions stuff is what Hurt alot of the diesels in the begginning. Now all the big 3 have stepped up the game and made some good engines. Now we know all the issues with the modern day diesels, we can fix them before they cause issues.
I know alot of people talk crap about the guy on powerstrokehelp.com, but his explanations make it easy to understand what needs to be done to the ford 6.0L made by international. Once your typical Headgasket swap, head studs, egr delete, and a good tune is done you will have a solid powerplant.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
The biggest cost is the Head gasket swap.. It is easier to pull the cab off the frame than it is to either pull the motor or work on it in the truck. The Labor is fairly pricy. I could get a price from shelby on parts cause he did it do his dad's 6.0L at his shop. I got a pic of the cab in the air on the vehicle lift. Whatever it costs its almost a necessity for the 6.0

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
I run the chit outa my 7.3. no problems. as for pollution.....plant a couple trees to offset and fukit. The amount of tourqe is really impressive from the 7.3. I am now looking for a 2001-2002 f350 crewcab lwb 4x4. I put a 4' turboback, intake, and a mild towing tune. next will be amsoil unit and a hydrogen fuel cell with a diesel injection modulater. With the fuel cell, I am expecting about 25-30 mph highway. they put out 3 liters of hydrogen a minute that injects into the intake and you dial down the diesel. Ive got 190000 miles on her now and the trans will prolly start to go over the next 60000 miles. Hopefully I will be able to afford to upgrade the trans and regear the rearend to run at less rpm at 65 instead of the sweetspot at 55mph.

Marcus I was just wonderin if you had an idea of what it cost just for the sake of knowing it. I dont own a 6.0
Eljefe,
Wat size tires you runnin on your truck? I'm about to put a small lift and 35's on mine and wondering if i will still have a decent amount of power with the stock gears... I have an intake, turbo back straight pipe, and a TW tuner.

Owne i knew what you meant.. Im just refering to him cause he done it and he would know first hand. I couldnt tell you as I never personally done one or helped.
BTW keep your truck up, Tymar DIY intake, 4" straight exhaust, and a good tuner. DP is a good tuner for the 7.3L

Heads lifting off the block, i wouldn't run a high tune on that thing till you get studded heads cause you'll seperate them in no time

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
Had a 2008 6.0 and at 80k it started everything egr, head gasket, would not start when hot,etc etc,got rid of it and acutally bought a dodge 6.7 I am not a dodge person but this is a nice truck all I did to this was straight pipe exhaust removing the complete DPF system mileage went from 12-14 mpg to 21 mpg and drives great with a load. 14-16 mpg pulling a 40' foot camper.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
Had an '06 Dodge 5.9 diesel. One BA truck, but the weak link on mine was second gear. A transmission rebuild and a upgraded torque converter and it was right. I'll have to find the pics of me pulling an F250 off the interstate because it died. As far as nice trucks, the F250 is one of the nicest and best looking trucks out there. Just wondereing if the new diesel ford is using is going to give them the problems as the past diesels used.

 Re: well, it happened (f-250)
dirt and water is what kills injectors, put on a fass dual fuel filtration system on problem solved as far as water and dirt. also many ford owners don't know that the later models have two filters for fuel and if they do know they are not changing them soon enough.
