 Carb
Is there a difference in the stock carb from a MB 45 Mag and a stock carb from a MB 35?

And a stock carb can handle those upgrades? Any idea which cam? I'm wanting more power but preferably stay with a stock carb

Piston and rods are a different stroke than stock? Would I be better off with cam and head work?

 Re: Carb
maybe start with a carb - exhaust. then crack open the block. and build up a stroker motor.siamese cylinders and pistons - linker carbs.alkyhaul.

I was thinking nitrous or maybe a twin turbo set up! I know everyone goes to a carb and exhaust as first up grades but Im wantin to keep the stock carb that's why I'm askin if cam, exhaust and head work would be a better option then goin to new crank pistons etc that the 45 has

 Re: Carb
how much money u want to spend. ? yes the cam kit exhaust and shimmed springs port matched and ported heads fresh valve job. will get u more than going the pistons rods route u can always build a stroker later. can i ask why u what to keep stock carb ?

 Carb
I like the simplicity of it as far as minimal adjustments and I want to keep the stock cover for rain protection etc. I don't wanna have to worry about my carb when I get caught in a rain storm

 Re: Carb
Thanks for that post^ like u said a different crank will allow to piston to travel further DOWN in the cylinder bore and further UP.

 Carb
What's the purpose of the longer rods in the 45? Is the crank different as well or does it increase compression?

 Carb
So how does any of this translate to more power? What gives the 45 more hp?

 Re: Carb
Longer stroke allows the piston to travel lower in the cylinder giving you more area to fill with fuel/air mixture. The Longer stroke also puts less friction on the cylinder wall and the piston rings freeing up HP. This is due to the crank and rod driving the piston at a new less steep angle. And most of all longer stroke give you a larger engine.
Look at the big block Chevy, a 427 compaired to a 454. The cylinder bore is the same size but the crank has a longer stroke equaling 27 more cubic inches. Engine Size Stock Bore Stock Stroke 427 4.250" 3.760" 454 4.250" 4.000"

It's my understanding that the crank is the same so the stroke wouldn't change, correct? If you increase rod length but shave the piston would the compression still increase and if so wouldn't it need more fuel than the stock carb could give it? Just tryin to wrap my brain around it all

 Re: Carb
DB8 just did a serious overhaul on his motor. Maybe he will tell us if he changed his carb when he went wif the shaved pistons and longer rods. He likes the stock carb.

 Re: Carb
so what some one says i can't build a stroker motor. with out the use of a different crankshaft.? do some of u know what rod to stroke ratio means.? if u do than u also know that u can build a stroker motor. case in point i can change my piston lenght in my 40 willys coupe that is a 331 cu. and ad rod lenght and and piston pin. and have a 347 ci.no crank change.

 Re: Carb
Just about anything can be done if you have enough money. I've honestly never heard of installing longer rods on a stock crank only to turn around and shave the pistons. Most of my exposure is to Big Block Chevy's and Harley V-Twins so maybe with a mud motor it is a common practice?
dfou, stroking an engine will not gain you very much unless the exhaust, intake, carb, heads and cam are also upgraded. You could get by with stock heads but larger valves and porting would help airflow. This would take advantave of all the other components to get more air/fuel into the cylinder.

 Re: Carb
You can't just install oversize valves. The heads have to have the seats worked to accept those larger valves. A machine shop would do that for you.

 Re: Carb
BPS IM heads come with the oversized 1 piece stainless valves and seats, shimmed springs, decked, and ported.
Others have bought the valves separately (EVT etc... ) and had them installed.
