Post Mb motor question
Hey was wondering if anyone might know what's the deal with my motor. The RPM's won't go above 3000 in the water and I can't figure it out. Or if anyone know someone close in The Houston area that works on them? Thanks in advance

Kinda need a lil more info, but sounds like the carb just needs to be adjusted. What's the rpm in neutral with wide open throttle? What's the rpm at idle? Have you had any work done to the prop?

Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.

Still under warranty, so any Briggs dealer can look at it, but closest mm shop to you is either in Santa Fe (he's an idiot) or SETX. I'm right down the street from them, so if you're headed this way, give me a shout. I will look at it if you want me to. That way, you wouldn't have to drop it off & make another trip to pick it up.

Saltwater is the devil!

Take it to SETX Performance they are in Port Arthur. They are a MB dealer & can do warranty work from what I understand. Also, you can add some mods! Then, you can run with the big boys

Camo- no prop work done. Idles at about 780 or 800. And out the water wide open it goes up to like 4100 maybe 4200 but it has to work it's self up to that. And I might take a drive out to u cause I can't figure it out.

Before you burn the gas, look on the back, near the carb. There is a small screw (about #8 x 2")that runs horizontally (starboard to port) on the linkage. With the motor running, slowly turn that screw to bring the rpm up to 1000 - 1200 at idle. That could be the problem, the idle adjustment is a lil low. I'd take a pic to show you, but I don't have any of the stock parts laying around anymore.

I was told that screw was the rev limit screw? I don't know but I will try. How do I know if the carb is running right not to rich or anything like that

That screw will not mess with rich lean. IT'll only raise your idle and max rpm range by turning it clock wise! Low Idle means Less high end RPM's. Also how old is the motor you might need to reset your lash on your heads that will also mess with performance if they are not set right or out of wack!

It will also bring the top end rpm up some, that's what you were trying to do. Text me a pic of it before you start, so we're both on the same page.

You can pull the plugs immediately after running it under a load & check their color to see if you're runnin rich/lean.

Just an idea. I'm assuming all this was done with the air cleaner on? If so it could be clogged or dirty make sure you have clear airflow also.
