Does anyone know who makes carb kits for the 23hp Vanguards other than backwaterperformancesystems.com? I'm trying to weigh my options as far as a Mikuni/Keihin carb vs. a new stock model for $225.

You'll have to spend $400 on a new muffler. Mikuni won't fit with stock muffler on 23.

Andy is the man. Keeps a lot of stuff in stock. Very knowledgeable also. They are out of Harahan, LA. I'm pretty sure they open at 8 or 9. If you call and nobody answers just call back in a lil bit. We're heading down there to pick up a motor from him this weekend.

boatdr dont have one. i called already. he orders from mudbuddy and ships strait to you.

SETX has one but he wants 80 bucks over the 695 for it. Micha at Mudbuddy has them hes just waiting on rev limiters to come in and thats about 2 weeks away.

Hate to burst yall bubble, but Boat Dr, SETX, BPS & MB are all selling the exact same kit. It will come from BPS, unless they actually have one on the shelf, which Andy usually does.

Makes sense...... Bummer that a carb kit is $700 plus shipping..... I know that there is a lot of R&D that goes into it and it is probably cheap when all is considered.... but thats over 1/2 of what I paid for the whole dang motor!

$700 is not just the carb, but all the extra components that you need also. You can always buy all the parts separately, but I'd bet you'd spend more goin that route.

I called Andy and chatted it up for a good 10 minutes. He pointed me in the direction of a take-off from MudBuddy (of which I have a call into them) or someone else's carb that was hopefully drained before they got the Mikuni. My carb is pretty gummed. I'm cleaned it out the best you can with B12 and brushes (like I do on my MX Bike) but it just isn't running right. I think the pilot jet is junk from ethanol gas setting in it for a few months (previous owner).

I'm just in a time crunch because I sold my 13hp that ran like a dream for this used 23hp that had set for a little while (3-4 months without being drained) and gator season starts in 2 weeks and I have the first phase (first week) and need a running motor.

Can you not get a rebuild kit? Or even just replace the jets?

the rebuild kit is $75 and really only comes with a needle, gaskets and o-rings. I'm going to try and get the jets and go that route but if I could find a new stock carb that would be my best bet for right now at least.

U need to soak that carb in the gallon can of carb cleaner from autozone. U have to take thecarb apart. Nothing but metal. The carb will b as good as new if it's just gummed up. No reason to buy another one unless u want it.
