Post Belt Prices
What do new belts run for motor? I just got my first mud motor and I'm not sure what it is, I believe it's a sport, has 29 hp Kawasaki motor on it and measures 27 inches on lower unit.

Save yourself some $ & go ahead & change everything over to the new style whenever that old Goodyear belt gives out. Will run you about $350-400.

Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.

1st off, you need to understand that these are not belts like on your truck's engine, they have cogs, or teeth, on them & ride on gear type pulleys.

Yes, the tension can be adjusted on them, but it's not something you should have to do very often. We're all assuming that you have a MB, is that correct? Before we can tell you how to adjust belt tension, we need to know what motor you have for certain.

The belt upgrade would consist of new top & bottom gears, & a new belt. If the belt that's on it now has cogs shaped like ^ then you have the old Goodyear belt & need to upgrade it, but wait until it breaks. The new Gates belts are tougher material & have rectangular shaped cogs.

If you do have a MB, you can get alot of MB specific info on the MB forum.

You will need to specify tall or short transom size on the belt. Tall transom will have 8 bolts on the clutch cover on the back of the outdrive, short will have 6.

Newer model belts are made of kevlar.

Gator-Tail has a lifetime waranty on their belts. That's one thing MudBuddy hasn't copied yet.

JC, it only comes with a new motor tho, correct? I mean, same belt, same motor, same design, but if you bought it 2 yrs ago, no warranty. At least that's what I can gather from reading about it anyhow.

I know a guy that upgraded to the new system & had a couple of the old style belts for back ups. I'll check with him to see if he still does & how much he wants for em. Shouldn't be too much, since they're now useless to him.
