Guys, I know this has been beat to death about frog spit, quick slick etc etc. My question really is for the ones who have used it, would you do it again? Been researching and from what I've gathered quick slick is what I'm kind of set on, but I just want to make sure its worth doing for going through a little extra vegetation and mud and lasting for more than a couple of months!

Ive done steel flex on 3 boats. Id do it again. A buddy of mine has had that on his boat for 3 yrs now and only has a couple little spots chipped off.

How many coats did you put on, and how many gallons? Looking at doing a 1648 boat and any extra tips to make it last that long would be greatly appreciated!

Idk Anything about it but tenpoint told me you can stand on it in socks with no problem

One gallon will do 2 heavy coats, maybe 3 on a 1648. I got two heavy coats on my 1848 with 1 gallon. It is slicker than shit, but can't speak on how long it holds up or if I would do it again yet. I've only got about 10 hours on it. If it makes it through a duck season up here and is still in decent shape, I would say I'd most certainly do it again.

Yeah, I've read alot on airboat forums and they all seem to like it, but they have a big problem with keeping it on cause they run them dry over gravel roads and stuff! I think as long as your going over tussits and such as that it sounds to reason that it will last several years!

steel flex worked good for me on the last boat but i never really put it thru the oysters good.
i did notice some lil chips fwd prolly from loading up at launches atop cement.
will deff.apply to new vessel.

The sock trick does not work. I repeat, does not work. Do not try this at home.

What does it take to apply steel flex to the boat

It is sold by fasco epoxies. There isn't much info about it.

To apply it, you need to rough the surface with something like a 60 grit sandpaper. If you don't get it rough, it won't stick. 1 gallon put two heavy coats on my 1848. I mixed about half of it and dumped it on then spread it out. It pretty much self levels. Make sure you cover any areas or anything you don't want it on very well. After you wait however long it says to wait, mix the rest and dump it out. Spread it and wait for it to dry.

It is slick! Haven't had it on my boat long enough to tell you how well it holds up, but so far I'm liking it. DO NOT PULL THE BOAT OUT OF THE WATER WITHOUT STRAPPING IT DOWN, and DO NOT DISCONNECT IT FROM THE TRAILER UNTIL IT"S IN THE WATER.

I run in the Glades....we did three 1648 hull bottoms with one gallon of Steelflex back in 2006. It is a good product. All three hulls still have slick coats. We run in plenty of veggies, sawgrass, we do stay off the lime rock, gravel, and steer clear of sand bars. It definitely made it easier to go over mud flats and weeds, and made both launching and trailering the boat a lot easier. As cb5331 stated, keep it hooked on the trailer until ready to push in the water or it will come off! Like most paint applications, prepping is the key. Make sure you have good ventilation, protective glasses and proper gloves.

Anybody tried coat it? Suppose to have kevlar in it.
