Post Places to fish?
Does anyone know of a decent place to fish around the kenner/LaPlace area? Im not from Louisiana and do not know this area at all. Also I only have a 23hp LT and a 15ft boat to get to where ever I'm going to fish so Im sure that will limit me to where I can go.

I've tried the spillway, but didnt catch anything. Not sure if Im using the wrong baits or what. Any tips or info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

yeah head east on10 take boutte exit and take that until it ends. take a right on 90 towards houma. Go down probably about 7 or 8 miles and you are gonna go over a big bridge. It has a sign that says Lac de des allmonds on top of that bridge. when you get off the bridge there is a shell on your left. there is a launch behind it. I only fished bass down there. The closest place that i fish is after you launch you gonna go back towards the bridge down that canal, at the end of the canal take a right. Go down until you see a power line and there is a canal next to it. fish that canal

bayou segnette, Laffitte, lac des allmands, Ruddock, Manchac, carnarveon: all have good fishing and less than 45 minutes from kenner.

Start looking at google maps from Myrtle grove south to Empire. West side of the river down Hwy 23. There is still some marsh that you can access in your boat and catch plenty fish. Fall when trout move in it will be a lot easier for you. Port Sulphur back north would be most protected water. Empire and South has become almost one big bay w/ a few patches of grass left. :(
Have you fished for trout and reds before?

U can hire a guide to shoe u around Buras/Empire. Trout bite is not consistent there right now.

Start out by finding an area down hwy 23 and go fishing. Watch for moving water on points and cuts and bait moving. Fish under birds working if seen. You can catch reds and trout w/ same baits. Find an area and start fishing. IMO if you are in a historically good fishing area you are better to keep going there and branch out a little more and learn the area than jumping from one place to another. If you chose the guide route I know some really good ones around the Buras area. They are gonna catch you a bunch of fish but in a CC w/ a 250 on it and go where you cant in your rig. Get wife some live bait and a poppin cork and go fishing.

Myrtle Grove looks like where I might be going. Looks as if I don't have to go far before I hit possible places to fish.

Now here is a dumb question. What will I have the best chance at catching? Bass or trout. Just need to make sure I have the right gear in the boat.

Anyone have any tips for that area? We are supposed to have high pressure this weekend so Im sure the fishing won't be too good.

That will be reds and trout. You will probably be dealing w/ more reds deep in the marsh rite now but keep an eye out for birds working. That should be much more protected than farther south for your boat. Check tide for that area and fish the points on incoming and cuts and ditches that drain the marsh on falling tides. Put some live bait on circle hook under a cork and let GIRLFRIEND (sorry for mistake) use that.
The ramps past Port Sulphur start to get into alot of open water that can get rough but Empire has those dang kyak tournaments all the time. Launch at Empire is called Delta Marina. You can see it from the overhead bridge at Empire on main canal. You have to get on old hwy (11) to get in to it.
Good Luck!

If it were me, I'd take a look at Golden Meadow or Hopedale/Delacroix.

Well after talking to a guy at work, Im going to Lafitte. Gonna fish with live bait, spinner baits, gold weedless spoon, artificial cockahoe minnow, white frog and have a few other ideas...

I guess I will let yall know what happens. I just hope the wind doesnt get bad!

In Lafitte there are just as many backwater areas as open water, so wind isnt that huge of a factor. But right no water temps are about as hot as they will get, so get out early cause they stop biting pretty early.

Oh and one thing I have found in Lafitte, if they are predicting a west wind, stay home.

I haven't fished that far up but I am sure it is more protected and Boat Dr would know. As far as Empire, if you wanna go there in the future hit me w/ a pm and I can help you get to some fish w/out crossing all that open water. Good Luck.

Thanks Dr! That's some good info to know. I didn't know they owned surrounding waters. Interesting.

Do you have a personal preference on lures/baits?

In that area, gold spoon or spinner bait for reds and green trout in the ponds. Jig head with any color sparkle beetle/cocahoe for trout in open water.
