 boat winch question
i have been looking at old post on winches on this site, i noticed several people using the harbor freight winches, how are they holding up. I know they have some good prices but i am not usually looking for the cheapest thing i can find, i would rather pay more for some quality item that pay twice for a bought lesson. I have looked at the superwinch brands and also warn winch. would appreciate any info you got on your experience with harbor freight / superwinch / warn etc
hopefully dont plan on needing one enough to spend 400.00 but at the same time dont want to end up being in a situation where i would gladly give 400.00 to get out of it
thanks in advance

 Re: boat winch question
Some good buys on ebay that are already spooled with rope.

 Re: boat winch question
I got a 3500lb superwinch on amazon for $190. I bought a cheap one at atwoods first thinking that it wouldn't get used much and I would be ok. it lasted all of about 20 seconds. Ordered the super winch and it is workin great. I have some on fourwheelers that have lasted 4-5 years and have had a lot more abuse than the one on the boat will ever see. IMO get a better winch at first and don't worry about it. Superwinch-$190. Warn 3000- $400. Not the most expensive but a lot better winch than the cheap ones.

 Re: boat winch question
i think i paid $185 shipped on ebay for a 5000lb venom winch, i have a rzr with a set of 30's on it, and when its stuck, its stuck, and this thing does really well for under $200, i know when uncle J get my boat finished thats what im gonna put in it. i am not crazy about the gorilla winches. 4 or 5 of my freinds used to run them on their 4wheelers and they didnt last long at all, now they are useing the viper max winches now and they seem to hold up ok for a $200 winch
