Spoke with LADWF Sergeant in Region 6 this morning. When it comes to possession of redfish in your freezer at your residence there is "NO LIMIT". It is considered food after it is cleaned and and you are allowed to have as much as you want. I hope this clears things up.

Just called and spoke with a Lieutenant friend of mine from Region 6 to get an answer for you Owen. The law applies the same for fish and wildlife in the state of Louisiana. There is no possession law for your freezer. It is considered food after it is cleaned and you can have as much as you like. You must bring them in and clean them, package them and then you are free to do what you want with them. Do Not do this while you are in the field (camp, hunting lease, etc..) and you will be ok. I don't know if LA is same as AR but the law there said residence. Man we hunted w/ had a guy that lived at the camp all year and got mail there. When state and feds made the rounds we never got tickets for the # of ducks in the freezer. All the other camps around were usually ticketed for the amount or no tags or something.
May have just been our great personality!

The friend of dad & I in Stuttgart let the guy live there rent free. He kept folks from stealing stuff during off season and hunted everyday during season and only had to pay electric bill in the summer over $100. That only started after owner showed up several times in July and Aug and the door was wide open w/ air on 65.
And I went and got a dang job. Should have applied for that one!

Here's a thought... I breast out my birds, that's all we keep. The limit on Canada geese is 1 per day, 2 in possession. The limit on snows is 20 per day with no possession limit. Now, since they're all just breasts frozen in ziplocs, how can they tell how many are Canadas in order to give a citation or take possession of them? Same scenario for ducks, how can they tell how manny are mallards vs grays? When it's just a breast, you can't, so how can you be cited for it?

You can only have a 2 day possesion of birds in your possession that are properly tagged and identifiable (head,wing) in the field. The possession law for your home is a different story, no limit. Once cleaned and bagged and placed in your freezer they are considered food. If you have any questions concerning this matter contact your local wildlife region office and speak with someone on duty. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. If you can't make contact ,send me a pm and I will contact some friends of mine that work there and have your question answered. Not wrong. SD this came from a Lieutenant from The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Region 6 office. I called and asked the question and that was the response I was given. I don't think he would just make it up, but like I posted anyone is free to call. I don't store that much wildlife so it doesn't affect me just trying to help some friends out. Until I see the law itself I'm trusting in what I was told, hope he's correct.

US Title 50:

20.33 Possession limit.
No person shall possess more migratory game birds taken in the United States than the possession limit or the aggregate possession limit, whichever applies.

20.35 Field possession limit.
No person shall possess, have in custody, or transport more than the daily bag limit or aggregate daily bag limit, whichever applies, of migratory game birds, tagged or not tagged, at or between the place where taken and either (a) his automobile or principal means of land transportation; or (b) his personal abode or temporary or transient place of lodging; or (c) a migratory bird preservation facility; or (d) a post office; or (e) a common carrier facility.

20.39 Termination of possession.
Subject to all other requirements of this part, the possession of birds taken by any hunter shall be deemed to have ceased when such birds have been delivered by him to another person as a gift; or have been delivered by him to a post office, a common carrier, or a migratory bird preservation facility and consigned for transport by the Postal Service or a common carrier to some person other than the hunter.

20.40 Gift of migratory game birds.
No person may receive, possess, or give to another, any freshly killed migratory game birds as a gift, except at the personal abodes of the donor or donee, unless such birds have a tag attached, signed by the hunter who took the birds, stating such hunter's address, the total number and species of birds and the date such birds were taken.

In all honesty your fucked either way you turn no matter what. I thought hunting was still ment to support a family with groceries. Isn't there a clause about if your to poor you can kill deer own your property year round. I might be mistaken.
