 Re: flotation
flotation only helps the boat float when its filled with water. other than that its just dead space and weight in your boat.

 Re: flotation
.... Edited. Saw after I responded you have a pd. I have a 27gdsd on an 07 1644 and it runs good. Maybe clay will chime in on this. Think he had a bud put a pd on this size gd boat. I think maybe he said performance was so so.

 Re: flotation
the motor would only run 13 mph because of the drag... and the back splash was over the muffler

 Re: flotation
X2, on everything BBB said.
We put one a 27pd on the same boat. We had the transom built up and put a tall transom motor on it. It is a little ass heavy, but it planes out and runs. Didn't have any problems with water coming over the back. I don't remember exact numbers, but I want to say we were running right around 20 with both of us and a cooler. I weigh around 210 and he's probably a little heavier than me.

 Re: flotation
^That is very true. My buddy took all the floatation out of his before we put the pd on it. His was def wet, but not horrible. I have seen a few guys that pulled a couple hundred lbs out of the floor though, so it's def worth taking a look at.

its a brand new motor. and i will look at the flotation in the floor i imagine its water logged because its an 02 boat. would flotation pods bring the ass end up?

Is the boat a tall or short transom?

 Re: flotation
I wouldn't put pods on it. If you are gonna invest in that kinda money, just sell it as is and get a boat better suited for that motor. That hull is not the best match for that motor.

 Re: flotation
You previously had a 18hp longtail on this same boat. How did it run with the longtail?
Sounds like a motor issue to me.
Call Pro-Drive and ask them if there is anything special you have to do with a Pro-Drive to make it run right on a Go Devil boat.
I remember years ago, people talking about putting shims on the transom to change the angle of the motor.

 Re: flotation
Maybe the issue really is your flotation, they are famous for getting waterlogged and dragging ass. I just pulled the flotation out of the floor of my gatortrax. It probably had 200lbs of water soaked up on it.

 Re: flotation
I pulled close to 250 lbs of water logged floatation from the floor of my 1644 GD and its an 01. Approximately 250 from the floor and another 50+ from the rear inner floatation pods. Also I tried, as a test, to run a short transom motor on a tall transom boat w negative results.

 Re: flotation
thanks for all the suggestions. The motor is brand new i picked it up had it mounted and went to then lake. needless to say i was dissapointed with the outcome. pro drive is tellin me to do a couple of things and see what the result is. the 18 hp longtail ran fine and pushed me about 15 mph with no gear and 2 people. so pro drive is thinkn there might be a motor flaw as well. and the guy mentioned somethin about a trim tab for it..does go devil sell floor kits for redoin the foam. and would it really drag me down that much if it is waterlogged?? my 1644 is an 02 so im guessin it is waterlogged..but still thats almost a 10 mph difference on what it should do with a 27 hp pd

 Re: flotation
They told us to put trim tabs or wedges on my buddies rig. We have not done it yet, and not sure we are going to. We may experiment with some stuff after the season, but I'm hoping at some point he'll get a boat better suited for the pd.
With both of our asses in the back it wouldn't plane out, but with one of us midship it ran fine. We threw 4 people in it at one point just to see what it would do and it was still running as fast as you are and somewhat planing out. Do you have your gas tank and batterie(s) in the back? Get as much weight up front as possible. That is a heavy motor for that boat and the weighted back design of the PD does not cope well with the tapered transom and round chines on the gd boat. It should "work" though, so don't get too discouraged yet.
Also, what rpm's is that motor turning? In water and out?

 Re: flotation
4300 rpm in neutral, im not sure runnin i will find out when i go back to the lake. but if the motor is fine and there is no problems. do you think float pods would help?? cause the back splash is really bad, and im goin to replace the foam in the floor im thinking. cause i dnt wanna move my battery and gas tank to the front.

 Re: flotation
I was also contemplating getting pods on my 1436, had about 4 inches of freeboard with a little outboard on it. Pulled 2 cubic feet of floatation foam out of my boat that was close to the back and up against the transom. That crap had to have been triple digits in weight cause now I got a lt on the back and have at least 8 in of freeboard and back splash is not a problem.

 Re: flotation
If I were gonna change anything on the boat, I would convert to a tall transom. I would not put pods on.
It is not the right boat for that motor. Eventually, you are gonna want to change it. Tall transom conversion should only help you sell it. Pods make the boat worth a lot less money IMO. On a 44" wide boat, you won't be able to make the pods very wide anyway, and if you have or ever plan on adding reverse, you probably won't be able to use it with pods.
YOU NEED TO MOVE YOUR BATTERY AND GAS TANK TO THE FRONT. This is a no brainer.

 Re: flotation
Move battery and gas, pull foam and then run it. Do not do any "permanent" changes to your boat until you have tried other easier cheaper faster fixes.
If your foam is wet you boat will drag ass...pull it out and it will get you up and running.
I run a 27PD and with a lot of weight in my boat it gets sluggish so ill bet that is your problem. Wet foam = overloaded.

 flotation
Crews used to run a 1644 GD round chine boat with short transom 27 PD. It would plane out fine but the bow woukd bounce do to too much rear weight. Im pretty sure he ended up adding 1/2 inch wedges on it and it ran great.
His had no flotation at all so that never was a variable and was a wide open hull. Which makes it a lot lighter then yours already

 Re: flotation
Have you contacted gd and put the boat in your name? If not contact them and ask about the extra flotation that they send due to the recall. They'll send all that to ya free of charge. Probably won't want to put that pod for the back that they send but they will send you new foam for the floor.

 flotation
Why wouldnt you just pull the foam out of the floor and leave it out?
Then u don't have to worry about it happening again.
Wedges are small pieces of angle iron cut down to 1/2" on one leg and welded to the bottom at the transom.
However, very few people put them on anymore. Even welding a bead about 8" on each side on the bottom of the transom could make a difference.

 Re: flotation
That's crap..(not directing that tward you) They sent me and my buddy all that stuff and neither one of us are original owners.
Correct. Rivets and foam. My last gd I used that hard white foam from the builder supply. When i replace the floor in this boat if I can swing it um just going to get a heavier guage flooring instead of going back with foam. The floor is oretty soft without it.

Has the boat owner's name been changed in Godevil's records to reflect you as the current owner? They won't ship out any parts unless you have a GD product registered with them.
