I just discovered bamboo last year, we used it to float blind and to do up some bush blinds, but I've got a few questions for those that have used it for years.

Last year I cut the cane several times throughout the season, it lasted a long time, some of it lasted all season. This past sunday, I cut enough to do my pop-up blind on my boat for the VA teal opener. By monday, the leaves were curling while we hunted, and today it is all dead, turning greyish brown and leaves falling off. Is it because I cut it so early in the year? Last year it was cut right before big duck season, this is the only factor I can see. Just wondering what you boys think.

Is it the same kind the one I like to use the leaves falls off after dead but another it stayed on but the cane is not as good and bushy!! I call the good one redneck cane lol!!

They were out of the same exact patch, some of it was regrowth from where I cut last year. It is nice and bushy, I'll take some pics.

must be the heat, drawing more moisture from it.

Funny thing is, we've probably had 3-4" of rain this week, since I cut the cane. Sorry about the pics, it was raining every time I took them.

I know that when I stick stalks in the mud/ water vs. Dry ground it stays green longer.

Exactly. Like flowers in a vase. I'll have it stashed everywhere I generally hunt and as long as the end of the stalk is in the water it'll stay green all season.

When I used it on my boat blind last year I found that if I kept it covered it stayed green alot longer

That is the same ones we use I put fast grass on my blind take about 20-25 sticks of cane with me tie it up and were ever we set up we put it in the mud at a angle and works find !! We change locations we pull it up and do again!! But I go find it dies quick bad thing is their ain't many places around me to get that cane !!

We use bamboo here too and never had the problem you are having. I will say that our duck season does not come in until Thanksgiving and I usually cut mine a week or so before then. Usually it fades with the season as it progresses. It grows like wildfire in my backyard along my slough. I prefer the smaller bamboo that is bushy and about three feet tall for my boat blind. The stem is more flexable to roll up in the canvas.
