 Bow fishing
Well today i ordered the materials for my deck, and now i gotta decide on lights and a generator.
I looked at some of the old threads and looked at the econolight website, and i liked some of those prices.
What kind of lights and generators are yall running??? I would like to be able to find some of those GE ultra bulbs, but cant find them anywhere.
Post up, lets hear whatcha got.

 Re: Bow fishing
8 500 watt halogen work lights from lowes. They arent as bright as the high dollar lights, but work very well. 9 bucks a piece if they break. you dont have to worry about slinging rocks through the glass (happens alot down here in LA) i run a 5500 watt troy-bilt generator.

They don't make the 350 ultra bulbs anymore. Go here to answer all you bowfishing questions. http://bow.fishingcountry.com/bfcforums/index.php

 Re: Bow fishing
I run a Honda 2000 with 4-5 350 Ultras. It only really wants to run 4 at a time so I have a switch to turn one off on one side and turn the light on the otherside on, depending on which way the boat is facing. It will also run a small 250 halogen that I clamp to the back.
I love running the Honda and could not imagine running my big generator all night with the noise. I want more lights but I will probably go to sodium lights or buy another Honda and run them both instead of a big generator.
The GE 350 bulbs will be almost impossible to find unless someone on that bowfishing website has some. They all seem to like the Econolight 150 HPS. I would like to get 3 400 watt HPS lights and be done with it. I just can't figure out how to mount them.

 Re: Bow fishing
jamie,
get you the honda 6500 eu, i got one and so does triple threat. its awesome; not loud and can handle a good load on it. its a little heavy but its worth it and you wont be disappointed i bought mine for my house and it doubles as my boat generator too

 Re: Bow fishing
I'm fixin' to set my future rig up with 11, 250 watt halos and run them with a champion 3500/4000 generator. I just picked up the generator at tractor supply for $275. It only weighs 100 lbs. In my boy's other rigs, we use 12, 500 halos on a coleman 5500. That sumbitch is noisy and f'in heavy, so I'm trying to get away from that with the smaller, lighter, cheeper generator. We've used 250 watts halos before and it's plenty enough light to smoke the reds.

 Re: Bow fishing
Mitch you would buy a Ky non res license which is a very small fee and I think the daily limit is two. From what I remember the daily limit is 10 catfish and two can be pf. Indiana residents are not allowed to shoot any catfish or pf but we buy a Ky non res and go at it. The Ohio River is getting near perfect for bigheads and pf. Let me know if you wanna roll my way.

 Re: Bow fishing
I have a champion genny I got from tractor supply for $300. 3500 watt. A lot of guys on bow fishing country use it with good results. If I could afford it I would get a honda, but for what I use it for the champion works well. I run 4 300 watt halo and 2 500 watt halo. If I had to do it again, I would get rid of the 300 watts and go with 500. HPS lights are also pretty nice, just pricey. Econolight is where I picked mine up at.

 Re: Bow fishing
I'm running 8 lights total. They are Lowes work lights. $8.00 a piece. The 2 on the corners are 500W. The other 6 are 300W. I'm running it all from a Pep Boys generator. 3000/3500W gen that I caught on sale for $299. Here are some pics.

 Re: Bow fishing
In about a week the river will be down and cleared out real nice. The bigheads will be up in force. Once it gets hot and humid the action gets real hot. It is now very hot and very humid now we are waiting on the water to get right. If you guys ever shoot some bigheads you will quit shooting carp and buffys. The stretch of river I run is one of the best locations for monster bigheads in the United States. Randy

 Re: Bow fishing
Had a honda eu3000, but traded it back in for a eu2000.......the 3k was a back breaker....loading it in and out of the boat everyday. Used to use halogens, still do when in a hurry to set up, but got some of the 150 hps lights/fixtures and was really impressed with them.......lets the generator run in silent mode with a bunch more useable light. Pretty sure I have at least 6 of the 350 Ultra's at home that I don't need, not sure what they'd be worth to someone? I tried them one night, never touched with fingers and didn't like the whiter light they made.....switched back to standards and threw em in a padded case in the tool box.
