 Belt snapped....gdsd
Went out yesterday with KJ to do a little scouting. Got about 2 minutes from the lauch and "POP". Drifted over towards the bank and got out and assessed the damage. Nothing wrong with the prop (thought I may have hit something). However prop wasnt spinning with motor running. Thought maybe I had hit something under the water and broken the shaft. After a 30 minute push back to the boat ramp and trailering back to the house, pulled the access panels off and found I had a busted belt. Took it over to Heritage Marine in Beaumont. Rick said he's seen very few snapped belts as they're rated for 100hp. He's checking into it to see if its still covered under warranty. The motor is an 09 so it should be. Hoping it wont cost me any $$$! I will be placing an extra one in the boat just in case it happens again. I guess its better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. My next project will be figuring out how to change it myself. Anyone have some insight on how to do this? I read the manual and its kinda explains it. Just wondering about how long I'm looking at.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
Wow, a 27gd modded to produce over 100 hp and break the belt. Haha, just messin with you. All bs aside, changing a belt in the marsh would be a pain and the belt would probably dry rot before you used it. The belts don't break very often so no point in keeping one in the boat. But hey, if it makes you feel better carry one with you.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
I have done it and if you need help I will help you do it. If you don't have a tensioner scale you will need one. I have one but your still going to have to get one as after so many hours your belt will need to be checked for tension and adjusted if needed. I can be reached 713 five three zero 9182. I got to bed about 8 30 every night as I got to get up early.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
Oh BTW it aint hard to fix it just a pain in the butt. Somebody mentioned dropping a bolt under the pulley. That tells me they done it before because that damn bolt will roll right up under the bottom pully and make you want to scream. I got a magnet just for such instances now.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
got some haters on here lol...i like my go devil. I dont care what anyone else says. I bought it for only one reason...to get to my duck blind and back. I dont really have much shallow water to go thru, only about a 100 yard stretch that gets low during the winter. So I didnt want to spend an arm and a leg on a mm with all the mods on it. I could afford it, dont get me wrong, but I've got better stuff to spend money on. I could care less about running 30 mph in the marsh.
Click, got the belt ordered today...it will be here by friday. Gonna go ahead and have everything else checked while I'm there.
Robert, Rick was very helpful with everything. Getting me a belt here by friday and he said he would install it while im there so i can watch the process for future reference. So far, I have nothing but good things to say about him and that place.
And giga, I bought it from James (3rd coast killer). He told me he took as good of care of it as you can. It was my first godevil so I didnt know about checking the tension and all that. Guess its a learn as you go process. Sounds like that may have been the issue though.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
and another thing, dont wanna make it seem like james sold me a bunk a$$ motor. Its been great up until now. Very well taken care of for a 2 year old motor thats been in the marsh for 120 hours. It was my own fault not checking tension...just clearing the water.

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
Ok - 3rd coast - I'v run alongside that motor before when he had it on a jon with crimped bottom and it ran very well - mid 20's for sure....
Bet once you get it repaired and serviced you will too....
If not PM me - I will be running this weekend and have new props as well as some good used ones too - we can test them and get it figured out cause once you get things lined out on your hull it will be a dang good hunting motor for you....

 Re: Belt snapped....gdsd
My cousin broke a belt on a 23 GDSD year before last. It was a PIA to change. I have always thought it was more due to not checking the tension than a bad belt. There is no way that belt would slip from being to loose.

This is my second boat to get from Rick. He's one of the few in the area that is interested in selling this type of stuff.
