Post Duck scouting from plane????
I got a buddy who said he would take me up in a little cessna plane over some lakes. I was just curious if anyone on here has done that before because it will be a first for me. I plan to bring GPS, map of lake, binoculars, and camera. Is there any thing else that might be useful? How low will he need to get me to be able to see any ducks without the binoculars(not sure if those will work if its a bumpy ride) and will it scare the ducks up getting low enough to see them? Any other tips that you'll can think of would be appreciated.

my cousin used to fly over the basin for work... he found us a bunch of holes to hunt by flying over in the chopper

I've done it a few times and I wish I could tell you how high to fly but I really don't know. I'm guessing 800- 1000 ft. But the way it worked out, we just go on a sunny day, and when the birds get up you can see the wing flash. The trick is to be high enough u don't scare them too early but low enough that they'll get up.

It's real nice to have a friend with a plane when it's a mild winter and you can't find the birds. Lol

Over land i think you have to be about elevated to 800ft. oh wait thats a helicopter.....when i use to fly out of sabine, on my off days me and my pilot would go up and scout around here we use to get pretty low to the marsh but it was only for a short period of time, ain't nothing like a real time Aerial for yourself.

I would think on a plane its somewhere around 800

My buddy said he can fly as low as 200 ft. legally, but i figure if we are that low then its probably going to scare the ducks off to soon as broz alluded to.

there are some restrictions on NWRs, but if you do it during the season and see other hunters out i promise you will rethink a lot of your hunting tactics.
