Rem 700 25-06 w/ hsm ammo loaded with berger bullets or Rem 700 22-250 w/ winchester silver tip. I like the fragmenting bullets due to all the bullets energy is absorbed by the animal instead of the rock behind it. I think the 22-250 is my favorite for Hill Country whitetail. Every deer I've shoot with it dropped like a stone. I brought my 25-06 to Kodiak Island on a deer. The other guys on the boat purchased new 25-06's after the hunt. But bottom line, you have to shoot what makes you feel comfortable and make good shot placement.

So what you're saying is that when you kill your first deer with a bow you're going to be an expert on bow hunting ;)

7 mag - leupold 4x12x50 - Handload Hornady 154 grain SST's w/ 5 grains over max. I got enuf F*ckn energy I can use 1/2 and still get more Kinetic energy than these childrens guns....GIGA!!!
I'm a grown man and dont have any problem w/ shot placement due to recoil. My balls are still alive and well.
I like the Nosler partition and accubond but they are harder to tune to some guns. The ballistic tip is a POS in my opinion for the area I hunt. You cant have a deer leaving the scene when hunting around water. My A-bolt likes the SST and its hell on wheels w/ the juice behind it.

Before you get your panties bunched... I didn't make a single deer hunt last year and probably won't this year but I got what I need if I get the itch. Killed more than anthrax when I was younger and just not that mad at'em. Got to many ducks to kill. ;)

Post Re: Rifle Ammo
Dad shot a .30-06 loaded with 220gr corlokts for years. Only had one deer that didn't drop. Now he is shooting a .243 because it doesn't hurt his shoulder near as bad.

I shot a buck last year with my -06 with a 220gr that was quartering into me. The bullet went through his shoulder, all the vitals, and exited right behind his rib cage. The engergy was so great that is blew acorns back up into the elbow of the shoulder the bullet entered. The blood trail looked like someone sloshed a bucket of blood through the woods. I like the -06 because you can get factory loads from 100gr through 220gr. I shoot 160gr out in the open and 220 round nose in the brush, because they can clip a small branch and still fly relativly straight. But then the older guys(like my dad) in camp shoot anything down to 22-250 and 25-06 because of recoil. The oldest guy in camp (90+) shoots the 22-250 and he only shoots head shots. He may miss a few, but he never has to trail one. He killed one the very same year he had his shoulder completly replaced with titanium with that 22-250.

I would bet money that the 22 mag has killed more deer in Arkanasas than all the .30-06's and .30-30's combined. 8-)

Maybe you suck at shooting a rifle. Placement you midget. Maybe you need taller shoes to get a better view through your scope.

7MM mag with 140 gr Core-loct.I had a muzzle brake put on it and a trigger job so my little girl shoots it now and she shoots better than most guys. She started out with a .243 but asked to shoot mine. The recoil was a little much for a 12yr old at first but after the brake she says "Its a little loud but it sure shoots good"After killing her 5th deer and 3rd hog in 2 seasons she says"Dad theres deer hunters and deer killers and Im a deer killer"Wonder where she got that from.

Hey Burch, I like her style. :D
She would fit in w/ my duck hunting ideas. The folks that say its nice to be outdoors and see the birds and don't kill any... I say bullshit!!! Binoculars and a camera are a lot less trouble than guns decoys and other equipment. Bird watching is for the Birds, I want to watch them splash and take their last trip in my dogs mouth.

7mm-08 hand loaded with 140 game kings. I used to shoot mags when I was younger but I got smarter with age. Still hunt with a .44 ruger carbine for tracking and 45-70 for primitive and a carbon express/rage shot from a Z7extreme. Don't use the rifles that much anymore.

blew the thinkin cap off a doe this morning with my .223 AR using a 55 grn American Eagle Jacketed Hollow Point at around 50 yds. Dropped clean. Brother shot one 20 minutes before in the same blind with a 30-06 ballistic tip winchester supreme and made a perfect shot, but his ran 30yds with a bg ass hole through her.

I choose shot placement with less recoil over big bang power.
