Hi Yall,, new to the forums..
I have a 25hp Kohler Comand Pro (Mudbuddy) & its just not enough power for what I do..
I found a 40 hp Kohler Comand Pro & was going to buy it & swap the Motors But will they swap out ?
another ?.
the Prop..with the bigger Motor should I get the prop re cupped & pitched & just freshen up the 1 I have..or ?

LT or SD?

I don't think the LT for the 25 is built for that big of a motor. I think the big blocks have a larger shaft.

its a Long tail.. Make'n a coupler or shaft isnt a problem ..I have a CNC shop around the corner

I think they use a larger shaft for the larger props needed on the big blocks. If you can machine what you need, and the transom bracket can hold the extra weight, go for it.

On another note, I love the kohlers and think they are a better built engine, but the big blocks have been tested by most major manufactures and they were not ever really put in to production for our application. The briggs, while not the best on qc, seem to be a better "out of the box" performer for this application.

the upgrade engines only about 30lbs heavier from what I was told,so I think the frame will hold it fine..I dont go jumpin beaver dams with it but I sure will roll a log or 3 on a trip just for shitz n giggles..

Na, I don't use or really even know of any guides man. Only one I know the name of is something stupid simple like n tx duck hunting guide. Only reason I know who he is, is cause he guides mainly on one of the lakes I frequent.

yea that tiller torque is gonna be a Bear.. If I got the kit for the exhaust n Perf package stuff..what kinda HP gains can they really give ya..that is if I stick with the 25...?

to be honest i would not mod a longtail unless your are absolutely certain that a sd will not be better. Have you ever ran a SD through the area you hunt?

I have a 27 on the shelf in my garage that I dumped a shit load of money in to. It is not even close to the amount of power I have with the big block and there is still plenty left in it.

I'd agree with that guy, too. Don't spend money that you'll never get back on something you aren't going to be happy with anyway.

I hunt everywhere.. river/ lakes & bays..I test drove a Prodrive & it was cool,but its alot like an outboard & I like the stand up ride I get with the LT..
For the cost of the perf kit I can get a FOB 40hp Vanguard to my door & still have sum gas $ left over..
whats the Most Hp someones put to a LT ?
my boats a 16ft Polar Craft all weld with 18" sponsons Ive added..
I took the center seat out to open it up & Loose a few lbs & added a Manual Jack plate for a lil bit more setback...
gps with me & my fishin gears 18 mph & when My Bud is with me its 11-12mph..I need to be @ the 16plus Mph..

A 40 horse vanguard?

Pd handles are a little bit lower than the rest of the sd's. i don't mind it cause i have long arms. Although a SD will push you and you buddy 16 all day

Im long n tall too DDB but I broke my back in 4 places so sittin isnt my fave thing to do..

test drive other types most handle sit higher. they will all be easer to drive than a 40 hp longtail

The handle on a tall transom isn't bad. I'm just a touch over 6 foot and I drive standing up most of the time.

A 40 kholer on the 25 frame will throw the balance forward terribly.

so will that really matter if the balance is weight forward..when under power it should push it back down right?

You will most likely be holding back on handle to keep it in the water. You might want to bend the cavitation up

Anytime he isn't going fast enough for the cav plate to force it down he will have to hold it in the water.
