i have owned three of the leading four sd. motors. here is my comparision. the gd. preformed good and took me were i needed to go. the down side of the gd for me was no clutch no trim no reverse. i had to be careful with the dog and people not having a clutch. also broke three self lubers on the shaft when hunting in the green timber. the smartweed and millet also liked to wad up on the luber. great customer service when i needed them. the mudbuddy's i have owned also preformed good. the early trim units were a problem but they fixed that with the merc unit. they have the best trim unit out there. they also offer many models with different levels of hp. they need to work on the customer service. i did notice that after many hrs of use that the trim bracket developed alot of wear sloppy loose. over all a very good mud motor just no reverse. the gtr that i'am running now preforms great in the mud and weeds it seems to take me places that i could'nt go before. the instant reverse works great no pulling pins and having to rachett the unit. that was important to me if i need rev. won't find myself 10 feet on the bank if hitting a cove or tree line to fast. the trim motor on them is slow but in the water it responded in all conditions. the travel bracket well they could work on that.the reverse for me it got me out every time it is a digger. some on this site say its hard to talk to kyle or hoyt. of the many times i called only once was kyle not there i believe he was out building blinds that day but hoyt was there and took my call.the gtr seems to be robust in its design and overall build. this is a very good mud motor for the duck hunter.
