Need some help? I am looking at a Gatortail 35hp with reverse, and exhauts. maybe a little twiking. Or a mudbuddy 45mag. Really it is reverse against a modded real 45hp. My boat is a custom hull, 17 x 50 with hunt deck. I need real facts. ThankYou.

Their is not a horse power one that can take the place of reverse!! Don't let any of these people try to make you think any different!!

Get the reverse for sure ;) Most of us tried for years to run without it and it sucked not having reverse! If you want more power later you can always get it done!

Mucknaked, don't forget, Mud Buddy has two different reverse models coming that you will be able to get the 45 Mag engine on-- the Sport V and Sport H.

1. Have you ever owned a high horsepower mm
2. Have you ever owned a mm with reverse.

I am not nearly as learned on this as others here but from what I have picked up...the area you run & uses for your rig & loads you will be hauling are worth discussion. The reverse would be very beneficial if you run a lot of mud. If you are hunting areas w/ water / veggies & stumps it may not be as important. Too many times people that run one area exclusively give opinions based on there knowledge...or so it seems to me.
Before you start boys...STFU! I don't wanna hear it!

if you run only marsh and mud flats- gatortail
if you like to run your boat up in rosa and buck brush then back out- PD
if you want to go fast, mod our motor
Once you have neutral, you will always want neutral.
Once you have reverse, you will always want reverse.

i'd never own a mud buddy and it has nothing to do with the motor itself

Can you repeat the question? 8-)

I was between a gatortail and a mudbuddy.. Went with the black death. I got a good deal on one and couldn't pass it up. I have never had reverse so I may not know what I am missing but I like my motor. I would say go with whatever is going to suit you for your normal application.. just takes some thinking.

I have had a Mudbuddy 35 HP hyperdrive balanced without a clutch or reverse for 5 years now. Never needed reverse or a clutch. Very happy with my direct drive Mudbuddy. The less stuff you have on your whatever you buy, the more time you will enjoy your rig rather than fixing it. Never had a problem with it.

I looked at both Gatortail and Mudbuddy when i went to buy, Mudbuddy was my choice.

I am not going to talk shit, personal preference rules want you want.
That being said, I will take my HD 5500 and a push pole any day.
The only time I miss my outboards reverse is when picking up decoys in deep water.
Make up your mind and take it to the bank, you can listen to everyone argue all day around here, but it's your descision...
You will be happy either way, just saddle up and get in the game...good luck

It's funny that only one person has mentioned the very important fact that in 6 months the guy can buy a MB frame that has reverse to go with his modded motor, same thing as waiting to mod his GTR at a later date & prolly cheaper. What's funny is that none of the GTR guys said anything about that lil tidbit. Or here's an idea, he can wait 6 months and get a MB that has the best trim, a modded motor from the factory, better more user friendly reverse than a GTR & a better, more well thought out frame. Not a tall, clunky GTR with that big arse clutch cover hanging off tha back. How's that for stirrin tha pot. What happens to all you GTR guy's when your motors become the GD's of the reverse MM world???

a motor that has not be tested in the real world? you buy it. Ask ford how the 6.0 worked out for them
