30 in a 14 foot boat is cool but.. I bet a few doz decoys, dog, and another person that little 18 hp will be hurting, I might be wrong, just some things questioned. I would of bought one from the guy if he would of called me back, talked to him on the phone a few time and emailed him and he never called back once.

Gil at copperhead said it was because of the perfect combo gears and propeller they use on such a light weight motor. They are def little speed demons. Buddy has a 12 on a 14 that runs pretty good.

Re: why are copperheads so damn fast?
they ar fast because ppl that own them strap them to super light weight hulls(150-200 pounds) and they are great to run refuges or if you want a new mud rig and your on a budget. my 1436 jon had 18 inch sides and a 16 inch transom with flotatation. it was all 100ga. aluminum, the best speed i ever saw was after we ripped out the old flotation(hull weighed in a 130 ibs.) and i hit 25 mph in 1 1/2 feet of water.and when your going that fast in a boat that small your not riding in the boat anymore, your surfing

Re: why are copperheads so damn fast?
well i have a 1442 riveted jon and a 1548 riveted jon, both monarks, great little boats, i run shallow sandy rivers and flooded timber, my hunting load would be a 70lb lab 2 dozen dekes tops and a gun and blind bag, i think i could still hit at least 25 with that load? i don't need a huge hoss motor with a 3/16 hull, that would be impractical for me....if an 18 would really perform like that then i think it'd be perfect, if i do have a huge load it won't matter cause i'd be going slow through the woods anyways, i don't have any open water to run where i hunt most of the time just thick ass green timber...just tryin to weigh my options fellas!

Re: why are copperheads so damn fast?
I think its got alot to do with the prop I have a hopkins on my 16 hp longtail on a 1436 rivet and get 17-18 mph when im surface driving it with two guys guns and deeks and around 15 mph when I put the cav plate under

Re: why are copperheads so damn fast?
It's half the boat and have the motor of the bigger rigs. Power to weight is around the same stock so u see the same speeds.
