Post Motor stored for 14 months.
Supposedly this guy has a 16hp GDLT that was purchased brand new in December of 2010. He ran it one time and realized it was too much for his little boat. Then he put it up and it hasn't been ran since. I'm assuming that he didn't clear the lines and add stabilizer and do all the other things he should have done for extended storage. I pretty much know that the carb will need to be rebuilt or replaced if gas has set in there that long. Is there a chance that anything else in the block is bad? I was thinking about dried up piston rings specifically. He's 3.5 hours away from me and I've aggressively talked him down to $2,200. Anybody have any opinions?

Buy it and flush it out, should't have any problems. $2,200 isn't bad, but you can get a brand new one for $2,795. All up to you on this one...

If your worried about the rings dump a little oil in the piston and let it sit. Freed up an old 2n ford that way that sat for 32 years. 14 months I wouldn't worry about it. Change fluids and clean carb should run like a champ.

Buy it, put in some gas, check the oil level and start it.

Consider where the motor was stored....whether it was outside or stored in a garage. If stored in a fairly controlled environment such as a garage out of the elements mother nature has to offer, it should be just fine. I personally wouldn't buy a used motor for that amount of money without running it first; especially since a brand new one is not a whole lot more expensive. Take a few tools with ya, some carb cleaner, and a wire brush. If she doesn't start right up, pull the carb.....clean her up and give it another try. My guess is that a simple carb clean, some plugs and fresh gas and you should have a solid motor.

I bought an 06 gdsd this last season that had 12 hours on it ..... I changed all the gas lines, replaced the oil and cleaned the carb ...fires right up every time . Had one carb issue with it ..that's it .. so buy it clean it up and enjoy ...those motors are pretty tough
