Post Catfish made possible by my new mud motor
I finally got a motor found for my Lowe 1648, bought a MB 31hp balanced hyperdrive. It has worked very well for what I need so far running a shallow river. I got the channel mapped with my GPS, so I don't hit sand much unless the river is really low. It has opened up many new fishing places to me. I love the reactions I get from people in canoes when I motor up the river where they have rarely if ever seen a boat. I especially enjoy the reactions from the worn out college girls who have just slept on a sandbar, and are now paddling in the heat. "Why the h**l are we paddling instead of driving one of those! My rig isn't much of a heavy duty mud rig, but it is working well for what I do until I can afford to modify a new hull someday. Thanks for the help getting me pointed in the right direction everyone here gave, I really appreciate the good advice before dropping that much money. I attached pics of the 3 biggest so far taken before releasing them.

On plane I can run in well under 6" The times I stuck it running on plane I was in less than 3" I can get planed out and run with only a couple inches of prop underwater for a ways, that lets me slip over sandbars to the deeper channel. I bought a rock guard kit since I started fishing a rockier stretch of river that will be harder on props but haven't installed it yet.

All were caught off some type of perch, bluegill or green sunfish. I have to catch them all by hook and line, catching bait is fun but it is very time consuming some days. I don't like to use perch smaller than my hand.

Nice rig, real nice cats and nice to see a smile with cats and rig. Too many tough guys on here not smiling with their winnings. Get you some of those bream traps sold in Memphis Net and Twine or Louisiana Fish Net Co. Bait with a piece of white styrofoam and catch bluegills galore.

I will try to get some new pics when it cools off enough for the canoers to get back out. I will offer the girls a ride to the ramp in return for posing for the camera so I can post it on here.

Heck with pics, let us know when the cats are biting and we can make a run out of it. Oh, the fish & females both.

Mogumbo a comm fisherman from So Illinois showed me that trick. I use cottonseed meal for my bait. He showed me his bluegill traps and i asked him what the styrofoam was for and he said 'you ain't seen that before'. He said the bluegill love it. The foam was nibbled all over. The Ohio is now down to pool stage and the current is real slow. So is the fishing. I'm just about done with my trot line/jumper boxs just for the slow times. I mainly use cut shad/skipjack for trotline bait but have some short trotlines for live baiting to catch big flatheads. I've been busy getting my new plate boat ordered and now going to pick it up. Its a whopper of a fish boat.
