picked up S&W's M&P 15-22 over the weekend. fun and cheap to shoot. Will be looking for another in 5.56 or .308 when the funds are present.

I have a few AR's and built my first a few months ago and I really think it's the way to go if you feel you can do it. Maybe you're lucky enough to find someone with the few tools that are needed and you won't have to buy any. If you're careful, the quality of the build will be much better than any factory gun and you'll have exactly what you want. You just can't be cheap on the parts. Quality parts make a quality gun no matter how well it's put together. But if I was in the market for a factory gun, I wouldn't stray too far from the more mainstream brands.

I did a lot of research prior to ordering my first AR. I went with the 6.8 instead of 223/556. Before pulling the trigger, I saw this spreadsheet on different manufacturers.

Whoever said higher end guns are more reliable couldnt be more wrong (in my example anyway). I would put a Rock Island Armory .45 ACP against the top of the line Kimber, Springfield, Para and Auto Ordnance .45's and still come out ahead. Less than half the price too. Ramp feed problems have plagued Kimber for some time and the Ordnance models are a more expensive version of a Springfield, minus the double stack.

Kimbers have gone to sh!t
