 Duck hunting Mississippi river.
Couple years back my uncle purchased a sand pit on the Mississippi river near Carville, Louisiana. Was wanting to see if anyone on the site does any river hunting on the Mississippi. I have seen teal raft up on the river rt in front of the sand pit an have seen them come to the ponds bt I think a big spread on the river would be best. Any ideas? We did have some mallards come in one Morning bt landing in the pond across the pit. A creep was on bt w no luk. Planning on gettin w Tal and plantin the three ponds w jap millet to have a food source.

Ducks use the grit to digest food...when the river floods the area in between it's natural bank and the levee the mallards will be in their thick!
Good luck!

Yea we have thought that same idea its just getting that high river to get the property flooded. As it sits it has 3 2-7 acre ponds in a 62 acre sand pit. Thinking if fillin those w millet/ that would give me a decent shot at holding some birds

Would any of yall know of any public launches besides the Bonnette Carrie Spillway Launch where I can launch in the river? I wanna do some catfishing from my boat in there.

 Re: Duck hunting Mississippi river.
Yea i usually only make it out there once or twice a month/ I like my wax delta.! Bt if I could have good hunting on my property it would be a no brainer. We have killed a good bunch of hogs out there these past few years, it would be good to get a good bag of birds out there. Wood sucks pile in a cypress pond on surrounding property. Bt rarely come to my ponds( that I have seen)

Well. She said about five years ago the feds burnded the crop. But they were asking all the nearby land owners who the towhead belonged to. She said no one claimed it on acount of the dope. So, What I gathered is that no one lays claim to it nowdays. If she is wrong then I am wrong also. Only repeating what the tour lady said.

 Re: Duck hunting Mississippi river.
We got the opportunity to purchase the pit because the previous owners where caught running deer off the towhead and lasso w boat, seems they druggem up to the bank and the game was awaitin.
It surely has grown back up. I'd have to believe that it would be ok to setup in between the towhead and my property. The tugs swing wide of the towhead which would allow me to hunt the 75-100 yards of water.. Towhead to bank.

 Re: Duck hunting Mississippi river.
We would need to be creative if things gt too heavy. Lol. It would depend on the water level rt now, it's been a couple weeks since I have been up there. If the water is High I can put u in no prob bt if it's low then my bank is covered in black clay. Very sticky stuff.
One weekend had a couple dumbass lsu kids take a jeep on the pit. Wake up in the morning to make a lil hog hunt and find 3 idiots sunk in the clay w water rushin over the bumper. Had been ridin the river bank he said till he hit a hole. That hole was a patch of clay abt 7 foot wide and was just sucking his car down. They had tried to get a gf to bring her subaru outlander to pull the jeep out. Needless to say I gave them a 2x6 and went hunt. They gt out nt sure how bt I bet it was hard. Thought is shard that.
Either way it's worth looking into

 Re: Duck hunting Mississippi river.
Hello.
I found this site while looking at Bayou Goula Towhead topics on Google.
The Towhead belongs to the heirs of the Lobdell family of which I am one. I am a partial owner. We purchased it in the late 1800's and have not done much with it. I was 40 years old before I went there myself. We sold some logs off of it many years ago.
It does indeed belong to someone. I hope to visit it soon and frequently.
