Post Help with Mirrocraft setup
I recently bought a 35 mud buddy with a 27" out drive and put it on a MirroCraft751 mv with a 21 inch transom. I get the best speed (20 mph by myself...170lbs) when rpms are 3150. If i trim it any higher it blows out ...rpms go up speed goes down. I am not getting the nice rooster tail I hear about and the only way to get it to plane is with all the weight up front. The 4 options that I have been given are to 1. Put a 32" out drive on it. 2. Change the lower gear to 52 instead of the 50. 3. Cut the transom down 2". 4. Put the outboard back on. Does anyone have any experience with this boat and or the possible solutions. I need Help!

the best option would be to sell the boat and buy one that is made for a mud motor or your never going to get the performance out of your motor that your looking for without jacking around and scratching your head after you try everything under the sun. Just my 2 cents.

Kind of what I expected but not what I wanted to hear. I am locked in right now cause I can't afford new boat. Disappointing since I just spent $7400 on a motor that I was told would work great on my boat.

Mis matched pair? Is one tall trams, the other short? What's the drive angle look like? Does the prop/shaft look like it sits at the correct angle? Have you thought about shims?

One guess on the good combo. Dealer. I did call a guy with the same set up and he said it was fine...I don't think he knows what a mud buddy is supposed to do. He told me he doesn't have a rooster tail so I am thinking he has the same problem.

I didn't see my reply so I'll try again. The mud buddy was for a tall transom. From what I read, ideal transom height is 19". Angle seems wrong because best speed is attained when motor is down to a point where there is a very small rooster tail. As I bring trim it up, it seems to spray up not back. I was thinking a 32" out drive would allow me to decrease the angle getting it more parallel to the surface. Trim is supposed to handle transom angles from 14 to 20 degrees, no shims.

Still trying to load picts. If it works, this was the angle that I got the most speed. If I trimmed it up anymore rpms increased but speed went down.

You didn't post your photos correctly. Either upload them here locally when making a post or link them to a 3rd party hosting service such as Photobucket etc.

Here's another angle. To me, notching the transom and increasing the out drive to 32" should improve the drive angle. Maybe not? What do you think? Waste of time and money?

Is your hull dented all to hell? And that's waaaayyyyy too much trim. It should be close to one lateral line from bottom of boat to prop

I know!! Hull is perfect. So the question remains will notching the transom and going to a 32" help? I gotta believe it will improve the angle.

Many have been in the same position, just get a real mudboat and save some headache.

Any gains you get from that boat will be minimal.
