 how much fuel capacity??
1860 hull stock maybe light mods on GTR 35. I know depending on the runs I'm gonna make, but how much fuel capacity should I go with? And has anyone used one of these fuel cells? I am thinking this one mounted just inside the back of the enclosed extended deck 6ft from the front of the boat. http://www.moellermarine.com/aftermarke ... ent_tanks/

 how much fuel capacity??
How far is your run? Seems like overkill to me. I can run all day for the most part on 6 gallons of fuel.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I had a 6 gallon tank, then got a 9 gallon just for a warm fuzzy feeling. Now I keep both in the boat at all times. 15 gallons a good bit of fuel and noice to have it an not need it and need it and not have it.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I have a bowfishing guide service and sometimes could run 5 miles one way fish for 4 hours idleing and then run back. That's prolly the most distance and time that I would encounter.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I have a heavy boat with a 36 prodrive. I put 62 miles on it the other night. We ran mostly WFO. I burned 8 gallons.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I figure 9 miles to the gallon with my 35Hp GD surface drive, no mods, on a 2060 GD boat That said when I hunt I usually burn about 1.5 gal per hour meter time but lots of that run time is on idle. Duckdon

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
9GA is what I had installed from Day 1. Never had an issue. 1860 w/ a stock 35 GTR will get about 9 MPG.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I have two 6 gallon that I can grab and throw overboard if needed. Benefits are keeping the gas fresh and no need for a fire extinguisher by law in Florida if you can toss the tank.... That is a subject on its own, fire, gas tank, throwing it, lol

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
Before I modded my motor, a stock 35 vanguard CDI was running about 2.5 GPH for me. One of the areas I duck/goose hunt is a 65 mile round trip run... burns about 9 gallons the whole trip. I have no idea what my motor burns now, I haven't gone on any super long runs yet this year.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I would put in a 10 gallon tank and be done with it. I'm not happy with my 5 gammon tank. I hate the weight but I hate filling up a gas tank every day even more...

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I am getting an 18 gallon built-in fuel cell. I know...overkill. I really wanted at most a 15 gallon. Just couldn't get a pre-fab Mohler to fit the design I am wanting.
I looked at it like this...the capacity will be there if/when I ever need to make a long run. I'm guessing the motor will be just like an outboard....or your car/truck. You are fuel efficient as long as you are up on step and running. Every time you slow down for a somebody fishing along the canal, then speed back up, slow down for the next guy, speed back up....you will burn some more fuel. Like city mileage vs. highway mileage.
So, when you have to put in at Amelia, LA, ride the ICW and Turtle Bayou Pipeline Canal and stop for all those boats fishing to get down to the Little Carencrow...I think that is an opportunity to burn some fuel. I know fuel economy with the outboard is TERRIBLE when I have done that in the past.
I'm only going to make that trip a couple three, four times a year living way up here, now. Few weekends a year in Grand Isle fishing. Very short trips here around the house. So, for the most part, just gonna put in the tank what I think I need. The extra capacity is there if I ever think I need more and don't need to take up space with extra fuel tanks on a long trip.

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I always had a 6 gallon tank & topped it off before each trip. One year I decided I wanted a 12 gallon tank so I didn't have to worry about it every time we went out, but eventually found myself topping it off every trip again. It seemed that even tho I knew I could make my run 2-3 times on 6 gallons, 9 just wasn't enough for even 1 trip anymore. I know it was just a mind game, but still. Now I've got (2) 6 gallon tanks & love it. I top one off, & always have ~3 gallons in the other "just in case" 3 hrs on the tach = 5 gallons fuel, running WOT & playing in the veggies & mud 4 hrs on the tach = 5 gallons fuel, running around at Caddo last weekend

 Re: how much fuel capacity??
I have a 14 gallon tank and rarely burn more then 5. I keep it topped off to add weight in the front cause my boat will bounce a lil without it.
