 Obidence.
As I mentioned In my other post , I got my first puppy ever in 38 years ,I've had him now for 2 weeks and he is 14 weeks old my Question is at about what age do I start some serious Obidence training , right now I think I'm doing the right thing I've got him to sit and stay and come to me , I've also noticed that he only pays attention for short time like 5 to 10 minutes a day when I'm working him, I do not try and force him. What is the average lenght of time that it takes to get a puppy fully Obident train. I know all dogs are different , Just thought I'd ask.

 Re: Obidence.
read water dog, its a good starting point for training your first dog. I Think I posted to you the other day ,man don't rush him, he is young. Like barnes said dont over do it . His attention span is short right now.

 Re: Obidence.
I start OB as soon as I get the pup but it's the stuff that makes him a good dog to have around. Stuff like potty training, sit and here and just enough to keep them out of trouble. Nothing with much force but start guiding him. Then at about 4 months old depending on the maturity, I start getting more serious. My current DD pup is 6 months old is is doing well with heel, sit, house manners, down, honors, whoa, no bark, and retrieves well on land and water. She has also been wearing an e-collar since 4 months old and just the past couple weeks collar conditioning has begun. Keep it simple at first and keep it fun, except for the potty stuff which I feel needs more correction.
Don't know what type of dog you have but I did learn that if you plan Whoa training do that instead of sit or do sit after whoa training. It's easier to whoa train first because then they won't default to the sit position when they get confused. Not a huge deal but one I will use from now on.

 Re: Obidence.
You did not mention crate training. Crate training is important. Mine still sleep in crates at 8.5 years and 14 months.
Also you can start place training (staying on a bed or mat) at a young age.
I taught mine to stop at doorways, the edge of the porch, etc and wait to be told it is OK to follow. Really easy to do when the pup wants to follow you everywhere. Just tell them "no" or "wait" at a threshold as they follow you. Put them back gently, no force needed, and repaeat the command. Then tell them it is OK to follow and head off. Very quickly they will figure it out.
I also introduced wistle sit and here along with the hand signals for both very early. I just added them once the pup started to understand the voice commands.
