 Anyone using an inverter?
I have an idea that Im sure has been tried but I cant find any good info on it using the search feature on here or google. I want to rig my boat up to do some night fishing for crappie. I was trying to come up with an alternative to buying expensive, inefficient lighting made for crappie fishing. My thoughts are using a 12v deep cell battery, inverter, and Compact Fluorescent Bulbs. At around 13 watts per bulb I shouild be able to run 4 of these all night on one battery. Anyone tried it? Any luck?

 Re: Anyone using an inverter?
Inverters are horribly inefficient. Look at LED lighting. Very efficient and can run on 12v.

 Re: Anyone using an inverter?
I just did an experiment. I have a 140 watt inverter I picked up at walmart a while back to charge computers and what not in the truck, I hooked it up to my trolling battery and it drew .3 amps with nothing plugged into it, the fan was running on it. I plugged in a 13 watt fluorescent shop light and it drew 1.3 amps subtract the .3 and it is right on the money if you divide by the battery voltage. I then plugged in a 60 watt incandescent shop light and it drew 5.3 amps again subtract the .3 and it is still right on the money if you divide by the battery voltage. My thoughts before doing this is you would use the inverted 120vac as your divider but it looks as though you would still use the original dc voltage as your divider, which makes my idea about 10 times less efficient than I thought. Damn.

I do alot of crappie fishin and found that green lights work the best. Amazon has these led light strips for $30-$40. They work great and will run all night. You can add strips to make longer or jsut to double up your lights. They are in the underwater lighting section for aqauriums.

You can get a 27w led and put any kind of tent to it.
send Chad and email and he might be able to get you exactly what you are looking for.
