Post 36 Prodrive clutch issue.
How can you tell if the clutch is bad on a 36 Prodrive? Mine has never slipped but today when it got hot from running a long spell in deep water it kept kicking out of drive and acted like it was in neutral. When I let out of the throttle it would kick back in. It got to where it would only stay ingauged at an idle. Any way to test? Adjust? I did notice some fine metallic dust forming on the magnets. Thanks for any help.

Yeah you can just go on and change it. Mine did the same thing when it was going out.

Sounds like the PTO switch or possibly a wiring issue to me.

I checked all wires and none broken, frayed. The switch works great. I don't have to pull it out to make it engage. I just have to let off the gas. When it is hot the top of the clutch rattles and looks to wobble. Is this normal? I haven't had any trouble ever with it slipping. This just started all at once. Any info out there on the cost of the clutch? Do I have to go through Prodrive? Are there any ones better than others? Thanks

Mine did the same. Changed the switch and never happened again. Good luck to you, hope it's not the clutch.

pull on the 2 wires going into the clutch. the wobble could be your bearing going out but i am gonna go with something electrical

the clutch is about 211.58 after tax

Thanks for all of the help. I took a trip UP river yesterday (I've learned my lesson about going down river first) and found my clutch problem. It ended up being the wires going into the clutch like most of you said. The wire was broken where it went into the clutch cover. After pulling in them to get back to the ramp they finially broke off. Looks like a good time to add the reverse since I will be pulling the motor anyway! Any advice on where to buy the clutch? Is Prodrive the only source? Thanks again

All you need to replace is the connectors.

After getting around to pulling the motor to replace the clutch I also found the noise problem. The wire had broken off smooth with the connector that goes to the magnet. The piece that the motor shaft goes through with the slot for the key way was busted into three pieces but was still holding in there. Don't know how long it had been broke but its been a while cause all of the pieces were worn off round on the ends.
Where is the best place to buy the whole clutch from? Does it have to come from Prodrive? Or is there another brand that is better? Thanks for any help.
