Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
I need to get a set of strings for my 9 year old Hoyt this season and the cost of the strings has me thinking I should either get another bow, or buy a crossbow. I mainly deer hunt in Georgia and crossbows are permitted there during archery and that's what most of the guys in my camp use. I always thought of a crossbow as cheating but I've also missed my share of deer that I should have gotten so this has me thinking. So what do you guys use during archery?

you can shoot farther out with a regular bow. I have thought about a crossbow but after some research I have decided to stay with a regular bow untill I can't pull one back.( just my $.02)
P.S. the string shouldn't coust more than $50

Crossbows are cheating. Its archery for people who are scared of missing a deer. Restring your hoyt. I'm still shooting a trykon. What's it gonna cost you to restring your bow?

I shoot a cheap ass reflex growler, and I missed the biggest deer ive ever seen last year in Kentucky. Its all part of hunting stick with the compound bow

Crossbows are for pussys and old guys. Z7Extreme is what I shoot. Missing is part of the challenge.

I grew up in Georgia and the only way you could hunt with a crossbow was if you were legally handicapped.

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
stick with the bow over the x-gun, i'm running a pse dreamseason evo again this year. i personally wouldn't waste money putting a set of strings on a bow that's 9 years old. if you can afford it, go get something new or find a used bow, lots of good deals out there on bows that guys use for a season and dump. huge difference between something new and a bow that old, you're gonna be that much more confident! winner's choice makes a good sting but they aren't my first choice due to price. vaportrail makes a great, otherwise there are lots of string builders out there on sites like archerytalk that can build you a quality set for $50-$100 in whatever material and color you want.

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
For some reason sitting in a box blind during archery season doesn't feel right to me. Ill only hunt with a bow.
That being said I have some family that crossbow hunt and like it but I just feel like it takes away all the fun and challenge involved in bow hunting.
I rarely pickup a rifle now, the challenge and reward from sticking a deer with bow and arrow has me ate up!
As far as sings I am about to restring my z7 xtreme with a set of custom korbin strings. They can be bought for well inert $100 I believe.

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
I cant taste the difference in a deer that was shot with a Rifle, Bow, Crossbow or any other weapon.
I agree it takes away from the challenge, but not everyone is out there soley for the sport of it.

Compound..! Have thought walking thru the woods with a cross bow .. their heavy and cumbersome.. long and wide .. my brother switch to cross bow thinking it would help he's recovery rate .. but not so it went down if anything ...

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
Cracks me up listening to some of you say a crossbow is cheating. Yet the compound is not? Why not use a recurve? Is use of corn or food plots cheating? Hell maybe we should just crawl on our belly and stalk the deer then throw a spear. I use a shotgun or rifle, that must be cheating to the extreme. The purpose of hunting is to put meat on the table. Hell, if using the bow rope was legal I would tell you I use that.

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
if you realy hunt for meat move your feder in 200 yards and shoot at them with a bow and save the shoulder you would have blown off for the table I rarely hunt with a gun anymore and have yet to go a season without tagging out

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
I am pretty new to bowhunting. Shot a spike last year and a hog about two weeks ago. It's pretty addicting. There is a little more challenge IMO with a compound bow. When your heart starts beating you really feel the adrenaline, so holding that bow becomes just that much harder.

Re: Bow or Crossbow? What do you guys use?
Like robe, I shoot a Reflex Caribou 44" ATA because I'm 6'4" and those tiny compound bows I am not comfortable with and though I use a release, I'd like to learn fingers only release and this bow is enough. I'd be happy with a turkey this coming autumn, don't care to climb a tree- I know that's best, I only get up in a ladder blind with my 30-06 to get a pig now and then. I like the challenge of using a bow, and the greater challenge of turkey hunting. Of course teal season comes first around here.
