 how fast??
As I posted on a previous post I have a really nice homemade 18hp surface drive (I know a lot people say stay away from the homemade stuff but this one is of factory built quality from a reputable machinist in my area). I just bought the motor and haven't had a chance to run it yet but I was wandering on a 15' v-hull boat (really light) what kind of mph and im looking to get out of this motor?

 Re: how fast??
Ok......... well not arguing your reply and I honestly appreciate your input. The guy I bought it from which is a pretty straight up guy was saying 15-25 depending on the boat. A friend of mine has a 15hp go-devil and he can run 12-15mph. Just wandering why do you say 6mph??

 Re: how fast??
youll get more than 6mph out of it, provided the pulley ratio is set right for that hp motor and everything else is good. i have a 7hp sd on a 1436 jon boat and get 15mph with dog and myself. i would think that you should be able to get close to 20mph. let us know how it does?

 Re: how fast??
Thats cool. Are the Alweld smooth or ribbed on the bottom?I'm running a 15-48 G-3 with a mod v front and a 23hp Dixie SD on the back of it.Haven't ran smooth water in it yet but get 24-25 mph in the chop. Good luck let us know how the 18 pushes it.
