 trolling motor
i have a 1748cc Pro Drive hull and i want to put a trolling motor on it. Does anyone have a rig this size with a trolling motor? If so, what lb thrust? I don't want to go too small, but i also don't think i need the same size that's on my bay boat. Any input would be appreciated.

 trolling motor
I run a 40lb thrust on my 1842 that pulls my boat up to 3 mph. My friend has a 45lb thrust on a 1748 extremely heavy hull and it pulls it 2.5 mph.

 Re: trolling motor
What you gonna do with it? how many batteries you run? I say if you going with 12v then 55lb thrust. if 24v then 80lb. I've burnt up to many trolling motors. i have a 72lb on my 1442 jon, but then agian i bowfish in rivers. My brother had a 36lb on his 20ft pontoon and he was fine with it. guess its how much you want to spend. never seen where i would want to go small as possible.

 Re: trolling motor
Ran my Riptide 55 lbs. thrust on my brother's 18 x 60 PD X Series just fine. Practically could put that thing on a step!
Pulls my 18 x 54 Uncle J (MUCH heavier boat than the PD rig) very well. Mostly kept the boat in place in a pinch when I was stuck in 2' to 3' waves breaking over the bow in a stiff wind while trying to figure out what to do about my bent spud pole stuck in the spud holder! I finally had to fire up the PD to get out of that mess.

 Re: trolling motor
Had a 45lb 12V Edge on a 18x48 Geaux and now a 55lb Riptide 12V on a 20x60 Gatortail. Both worked just fine for trolling in the marsh, never killed a battery in a day fishing, although I never used them in situations where I was fighting heavy current.

 Re: trolling motor
As stated above... it depends on your application. If you are fishing and can charge each day a 12 volt is plenty IMO. I have a Riptide 55 also and have been very pleased. Minn Kota is worth the $, again IMO.

 Re: trolling motor
Had a 55 lbs. riptide on mine that pulled the hell out of it. Great little motor. If you buy a minn kota, get the quick release bracket. Itll give ya the ability to pull a pin and take the whole thing off instead of unbolting it during duck season.

 Re: trolling motor
55lbs riptide all the way, got the one with ipilot on my 17x54 Uncle J, it will pull my boat 3mph or so going by the ipilot remote. Can run it 2 days fishing and still have half charge on my battery.
