Summertime lull - What are you doing to pass the time?
Just wondering what everybody else is doing to pass the time when they're not mud riding or staring at their boat and motor. I've been dreaming about teal season and feel like its still a little early to ride around looking for some good spots holding good grass. I don't want to jinx anything like having a big storm come in and tear up the coast.
I've been chasing redfish, frogs and bass to keep me occupied.
1. Boat, motor, and boat blind are good to go. Check! 2. Plenty of Kent Fasteel ready to go. Check! 3. Decoys were all fixed up and ready when I picked them up after the season. checK!
Guess I'll be fishing somewhere over the weekend.
Come on September 12! I am ready for a little cool spell to break this heat.

Have made the same preperations in anticipation for the season, going back out in a few weeks to final brush the blind. Praying for a good old fashion cold winter in the south; and an even colder one up north

Re: Summertime lull - What are you doing to pass the time?
Took a ride this afternoon with Darrel, threw myself out the boat twice, once just was not good enough.
Ordered 2 doz new teal dekes the ones that will get hunters attention more than ducks because they look GOOD.
Getting ready to hit the sporting clays and five stand.
Wearing out the redfish and beers.
And last but not least getting fat because I'm now sitting behind a console looking at 10 monitors because they trust me with a 2600 PSI unit @ 740 degrees with hydrogen and oil to crack long hydrocarbon molecules into smaller more usefull molecules.
Thats it in a nutshell.

Re: Summertime lull - What are you doing to pass the time?
I've been working on some plans for a duck blind. This will be my first year to be on a major duck/dove lease and I want to put something together before the season starts. I'm recovering from a surgery right now but my #1 hunting buddy is a rig welder that's out of work so we may get something going.
If anybody knows a good place to buy some 2 inch pipe and angle iron in east Texas feel free to let me know.
I'm trying to figure out how long to make the blind to hunt 3 or 4 people. Hopefully 16 feet will be long enough.

Re: Summertime lull - What are you doing to pass the time?
Actually, neither.
Its built on a pipe foundation with a sled-like base. The floor of the blind will be about 22 inches off the ground. They are easily pulled across flat terrain with a pickup and are designed to hunt flooded fields and shallow marshes. My lease has about 6 bodies of water that flood into corn and soy bean fields so Ii need some added cover.
It may be a while before it's done but I will try to post pictures later.

Doin whatever the 'ol lady wants me to do so when big duck season and football season begin, I can refer back to - "Rememer you would leave me alone for 3 months if I did...." However - have done really well on frogs and reds in the last two months.

Re: Summertime lull - What are you doing to pass the time?
This has been an unusual year for me. Got a new dog, so I'm training him. Got a new boat, so I'm painting, installing lights and hydroturf, etc, etc. Got a new gun, so hopefully I'll have time to work up some good loads and practice a bit before the season gets here. In short, my other dog got too old, I got tired of getting out and pushing my old boat (outboard), and my old gun was broke which seemed to me like a good excuse to get a new one. If things go like they usually do, final preparations will be complete around midnight before opening day!
