Post Rage Chisel-Tip?
Just wondering what everybody bowhunts with? season is gonna be here in a couple months and I've been debating switching to the new Rage chisel tip. I've shot muzzy mx-4 then switched to the Rage 2 blades and really like 'em (massive blood trails & tip over in sight) but you gotta stay away from that shoulder. I've saw they were coming out with a chisel tip but am wondering if its all that much of an improvement? If not ill hang with what I got, also am looking at the Epek broadheads, kind look the same but the blades are stored differently? What do you guys shoot? What is your experience with the rage 2 or 3 blade?

New Rage

Epek X-C3

Shot this hog in the shoulder as she was quartered toward me a month ago at 30 yards with a regular rage 2 blade. Went 30 yards. Your regular 2 blades are fine. You don't need to spend the money. Granted I needed a rebuild kit on the broadhead, but it passed through bone. JMO

I just have trouble with broadside shots, which sounds odd but I had one bad experience where I caught some shoulder with a 2 blade and only got a few inches of penetration and another where I was a little far back and caught some guts that made the dressing job a real mess. Other than that I've had no issues, either a clean pass through or a good quartering away shot, I just have trouble finding a happy medium on the broadside shot...

I worked in the archery industry until recently and I've seen and heard every theory there is on broad heads. The facts are that any broad head works on a well placed shot. Any broad head CAN fail on a poorly placed shot although some work better than others on certain bad shots. It's simple; practice and know your limitations, pushing those limitations is what causes wounded animals. I've shot deer with Rage broad heads that I may not have recovered with any others, but my largest deer that grossed at 192 6/8 would most likely not have been harvested if I had been shooting them. (very hard quartering away shot) the penetration on any mechanical broad head does not compete with a cut on contact fixed blade. Just my thoughts based on my experience.

I made a poorly placed shot with a rage last season. Deer was under me . I've killed at least 6 other deer with same shot. But with fixed blades. This particular shot was on a 180" typical 12pt. The rage didn't deploy and the arrow slid down his rib cage. Not a single vital was touched. 11 days later this buck was at other deer camera. I know it was a BS shot but I was comfortable with it and had I shot my shuttle t locks he would be on my wall. I'm not ever chancing expandables again. Shuttle t locks is my vote.

I've killed over 40 deer with the rage 2 blade! Shot one deer with a fixed broad head in all the years I been hunting made a bad shot coyotes found him before me!! I've even pulled a rage out of a deer while looking at another put it in my bow and shot that one with the opened rage that resulted in 2 dead deer!! I want to try the swacker also

I had trouble with rage opening in flight .. went back to fixed blade.. I want a good mechanical cause of the cutting diameter... Fixed blades have gotten so small in last 10 yrs.... They both have their own advantage

I'm still shooting my old style 76 grain Rocket Aerohead Mini-Blasters. We've had good luck with them ever since they first came out. My buddy did shoot a big deer this year with a Rage and hit the shoulder towards the front. It only went in a few inches and broke. Almost no blood. We tracked that thing all night and the next day. It was seen on game cams again and eventually shot. I won't ever shoot them after seeing that and neither will my hunting buddies. I've been hearing good things about Grim Reapers but haven't tried them yet. They do have a 85 grain model that I've been looking at.

I like the rages, I killed a few deer with the G5 tekan last year. I really like those too. The blade retention system is awesome.

I shoot the rage 3 blade and have been for a few years now. I have shot prolly 10-12 deer a coyote and the farthest track job was maybe 80yrds. I have learned to be patient with a shot it can make all the difference. I have shot quartering to and away shots no problems. I don't like to shoot my rage a hogs though so I carry mx-4 and montec G5 for the bacon. I even shoot old arrows cause the hogs are close to the ground its kinda hard to get a pass through when ur arrow hits the ground on the exit, more times than not the arrow is broken after shooting a pig.
