Post Just tested 13hp Honda on 1542 riveted jon
All exited to head to the swamp and was greeted with mud do to the 3rd worst drought in ohio's history. Went for it anyways. Correct me if I am wrong but I realized I had to put pressure on the handle to keep the prop as low as it could go to get forward momentum. There was not even an inch of water. Solid muck. In the muck I got up to 15mph. I needed that speed to cost over the vegetation because in the lilies the root structure would not allow the prop to even touch the muck because of the sceg. Made it an 8th of a mile and broke the prop on a log. Had an extra so we got back in. These are the aluminum props I was telling you guys about. I called the company that makes the Thai kit and he said not to put a ss prop on because we would start breaking shafts. This is disappointing because it will take me 5 props to get to my spot each hunt. He began to tell me how I am driving it wrong and that a prop will last him 2 years in the Everglades. I explained that up north the amount of logs and nig heads are a lot more prevalent. I can't even imagine what ice will do to that alum prop. What do you guys think? Should I go stainless or buy an aluminum prop casting plant?

They make aluminum weedless props? No doubt go stainless... You dont put highway tires on your off road vehicle....

Just talked with backwater to get a prop. He told me I am sol. He said that those Thai kits do not accept any prop exept for those that come with the motor that are made from recycled pop cans. My shaft uses the sandwich method for the prop unlike all the others that thread on. So I am in the process of having 2 shafts built to take another prop. Also what blew my mind is that there are no bearings. The have pieces of wood hollowed out holding the shaft in it's place. How long before the wood needs replaced? :? Well moral of the story you get what you pay for. The guy at backwater said I am the 20th call on this problem recently. Very knowledgable and helpful

Those props are junk. My buddy bought a thai kit and put one together with a 8.5 hp briggs. We topped out at 13.2 in my 14ft jon with two guys and tools, which suprised me. The bushings are plastic and the props are not much more than beer cans in the shape of a throwing star :D I think the props are only like 5 bucks a piece!

If you are doing a lot of bumping and grinding, which it sounds like, then you will want a real longtail. The thai kit will not last, nor will the props. If you are stuck with what you have then pray for rain and buy a box of props!
